Here's the Before and After pictures of my bookcase tidying.
I have decided to get rid of all my Rachel Allen books, looking through them I realised that it was the lifestyle more than the recipes that were holding my attention.
Not what a good recipe book should do. Also most of her recipes I have in various forms in other books anyway, which I guess is true of a lot of recipe books when you think about it.
You can tell a book that you use regularly by corners folded down, tatty covers or in the case of this one .... lots of mini 'post-its' sticking out.
A nice selection of books for the car boot box.
Meanwhile outside ..... Arthur is in a hole of his own making ..... he was out of view for such a long time that I went over to see if he was okay. This is a HUGE job to be doing single-handedly.
And finally ....
I couldn't go today without saying a MASSIVE
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
to my lovely Mum, who is (shh ... don't tell anyone)
75 today.
We are about to start a whole weekend of birthday celebrations together.
See you soon Mum and Graham.
Sue xx
Dear Sue,
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to your mother on her birthday. May it be a wonderful day, not just for her but also for you as family celebrating with her.
All the best
Elizabeth in Cape Town
We've all been looking forward to this weekend for a long time. Thanks for the good wishes. xx
DeleteHa ha...your Rachel Allen books comment made me chuckle! I am exactly the same. I have most of her books...have only ever made one of her recipes and it cost far too much in preparation. However, my main reason for buying them was to see all her lovely clothes that she wears. Very my style but unfortunately not all my price tag! Happy birthday to your mum. (Mrs L H)
ReplyDeleteIt's made me think that I'll have to look carefully at my other 'cook books' and see which are just style and which are absolute substance!!
DeleteHappy birthday to your mom, Sue. That is one big dig going on at your house, and your hubby must be exhausted from all the work. Hope this all works out okay!
ReplyDeleteLovely Hubby has been sat luxuriating at his desk job down south, while I'm at home with all the muck, mud and mayhem Arthur, a brilliant local workman is doing all the manual stuff for once, I keep him supplied with tea and he operates machinery, digs holes and creates mud ..... oh and then we'll have to pay him ;-)
Deletethat is indeed a big job for one man? Happy birthday to your mum.
ReplyDeleteI have just taken a big bag of books to the charity shop (and only bought 1 whilst there) recipe books I never use and other miscellaneous books and other odds and ends no longer needed, another wee clear out. Happy birthday to your mum :)
ReplyDeleteLovely tidy looking bookcase :o) Happy birthday to your mum, have a lovely weekend of celebrations :o)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your mum, hope that you have a lovely time together.
ReplyDeleteI decluttered my cook books last year but I think I need to go through what I kept. And we won't mention all the magazine cut outs & printing!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your mum! 1940 was a very good year, I can vouch for that!
I was looking for a particular recipe book yesterday to no avail. I think it was chucked in my last clear out. Resorted to the Internet for the recipe I wanted from it which goes to show we can do without the clutter. Never heard of Rachel Allen btw.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your Mum! xx
ReplyDeleteSeeing Arthur in his hole reminds me of that song, 'There was I digging this hole........', by Bernard Cribbins I think?
I like a tidy bookshelf! I do think books out now & again myself. I have a few favourite recipe books but lots of my recipes are torn out of magazines or printed from the internet so I just keep them all in a folder.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Sue's Mum!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your mum! Bet you will be glad when that hole is filled in :)
ReplyDeleteSome serious work on that hydrobreaker by the looks! I wish more of my book cases looked like that. I think I need another sort out with my books.
