Just One Day Later

Just one day later we have 45 solar panels in place and ready for action, and the only worker left on site is Rob the painter, all by himself painting in the workshop.  I had to nip into Llandudno and get him two more 10 litre tubs of masonry paint this morning, he had used up the five we already had.  I was shocked to find out they have gone up from £35 each to £43 each ... an £8 increase in just a couple of weeks!!

The top photo was taken on the panoramic setting on my camera, it kind of makes it all look a bit weird but shows the garage and workshop roof in relation to the things around it.

Then I backed off up the hill a bit more and got this one, which makes everything look much more normal  :-)

The animals seem to get into most of my photos don't they, I really didn't see Ginger approaching until I clicked the camera!!

I was asked yesterday if we will be off-grid now we have these panels.  Well once these are connected they should be supplying all our needs electricity wise, we have also installed a battery backup system that kicks in when they aren't generating any electricity for any reason (night time, excessive fog etc) and the workings out show that we should also be generating enough power to be able to feed it back to the National Grid to generate a small income.

Lovely Hubby is a stickler for workings out and planning ahead, it's the engineer in him,  and now this system is in place he's worked out that it should pay for itself completely in the next ten years and then give us some completely 'free' years of power before we sell up and retire to a love nest by the sea.  After all even Hannah Hauxwell gave up her rural lifestyle before it finished her off completely  :-)

Yesterday on the way back from Mums I called in to Tesco to pick up some dried dog food and of course I had to have a quick glance at the reduced to clear shelf ....

I was in luck.

Four packs of cheese at much less than half price and a pack of two Salmon En Croute, saving me a total of £6.66  (oooh the mark of the devil).  The salmon went straight into the freezer and I'll grate the cheese later on today and do the same with that.

I love a bargain .... whether it be electricity or cheese  ;-)

  2. Wahoo good to see the panels in place :-) Love your future plans. My husband is a self employed painter and decorator he always buys the paint for his customers and uses his discount as its so expensive maybe if you need work doing again you could ask the same :-) Enjoy your new panels, dee x

    1. This was just a 'we'd supply the paint if he supplied the labour' deal.. It worked out fine for both of us. As it happens he 's managed not to use one of the tubs, he's just this minute finished ... so I can take it back for a refund tomorrow :-)

    2. I always keep back a can of paint from a large project and eventually it gets used for repair or patching projects that need matching paint.

  3. Bargains are such fun! I love the idea of the panels - would love to aim towards being self sufficient with energy eventually. :)

  6. The panels look great so neat , when you see them on some houses they do look a mess but yours doesn't , I popped into morrisons the other saturday at lunch time and was surprised to see some meat reduced to half price , I was wondering if this was a new technique to reduce them to half at midday instead of reducing them drastically before they close ,I bought about 5 items xxx

    1. They do look neat and are in fact almost completely invisible from the road, I had to go up the hill behind the garage to get the shot.

Our supermarkets seem to have 3 reduction times, once in the morning for items out of date that day, just by about 20p or so per item, then to half price mid to late afternoon, and then down to bargain 10p and 20p prices an hour before closing.

I find it's always worth looking if I'm there.

  7. The fact that the price of paint went up so much is very ironic at a time when we are supposed to be in a period of negative inflation! I'm always very sceptical about how they calculate inflation. Yesterday I bought two baguettes and a 500ml bottle of water at the Motorway services, and it came to over £10 - a ridiculous £1.99 for a little bottle of water!!

  8. I can't believe how much work has been done to your property recently - well done! On our way home from our holiday yesterday, I picked up lots of yellow sticker items in the supermarket. Isn't it typical, you book a holiday for the first time in 4 years and the blasted shower packs up on you the day you're due to leave. However, we picked up a discontinued model in the sale on the way home and it was fitted this morning by a friend who is an electrician. What a lovely man.
