Bargains and Coupons

I was in Asda the other day, I buy the dogs Iams dog food from there as it's the cheapest place round here for it and I wanted to use up the voucher I got the other week.

I spotted these humungous pizzas in the reduced chiller cabinet, so straight into my trolley they went.
.

Once home they were cut into quarters, individually wrapped ...

... and popped into a freezer box ready for future 'ready meal' use.

With a handful of fresh veggies, maybe some meat for Lovely Hubby and a bit more cheese sprinkled on top they will be tasty and quick meals for when the inspiration simply doesn't strike.  And it's always nice to have something to go with all the salady bits we are getting from the polytunnel.

They were on these two large pieces of white cardboard and I just can't bring myself to throw them away, they will come in useful for something.  A quick wipe over and they have been put into the cupboard, waiting for more inspiration to strike!!

The coupon I had was through doing the 'Asda Price Guarantee'.   I honestly thought the receipt that I checked would not have meant I qualified for a coupon but it did .... and for £6.13  I was amazed.  You get them if your Asda shop would have been cheaper elsewhere, and Asda guarantees to be at least 10% cheaper, if they are not you get the difference in the form of a coupon to spend next time you are in there.

Once I got home with my pizza shopping and the other things I bought while I was there, a total spend of around £30 I entered that coupon into the box on the website and guess what .....

.... I qualified for a coupon of £2.44.

Good stuff, every little helps ... or maybe that's another shop ... Lol    ;-)

  1. pizza is something I dont eat or buy, I dont do cheese at all, If hubby wants one he will make it we had a lovely outdoor brick oven at the other house that he built and soon will get one built here.
I do like it when I get a coupon back with shopping when I did my shop last week I used £27 worth of coupons so only had £7.12 to pay at the till. :-)

    1. We don't eat it often, but once in a while we both fancy it, so it's handy to have slices like this ready to load up with tasty goodies. On their own I think they would taste not much better than the sheets of cardboard they were on, but with roasted veggies and extra grated cheese they taste yummy :-)

    2. I should have said I dont eat cheese because I have a bad reaction to rennet that is an enzyme from calf stomachs used for making cheese, even handling cheese can cause me a reaction so we are mostly a cheese free house, I love the smell of cheese cooking and when hubby does have a pizza it smells delicious :-)

    3. I eat vegetarian cheese, have you tried that? I try not to eat anything with milk or cream in it as I have a reaction to it, but at the moment I seem to be okay with cheese and yoghurt, I hope it continues.

    4. I havent eaten cheese since I was little so dont miss it, I havent tried the vegetarian cheese even some of those are made with GM enzymes and they are not obliged to tell you what the substitute is they are using

  2. I'm opposite to dawn, I love pizzas and it's our Friday night tea. We occasionally make our own but it's normally bought with stuffed crust, it's nice to have one night I don't have to think about what we're going to eat! Followed by popcorn as well! We all love our night of slobbery!

    1. I used to let my boys decide what toppings they wanted on theirs when they were little, and we used to make 'french bread pizzas' together. Simply with a 'reduced to clear' long french stick sliced down the middle and chopped into appropriate sized segments and then topped with what they fancied. It was one meal they always loved and could never get enough of.

    1. It does mean that you don't have to thaw out a whole pizza if there's just one of you for tea. I do the same with bought garlic breads when I get them on reduced to clear offer, it means we can just have a single slice when we have a meal or bowl of soup that it goes well with.

  4. We love pizza but as vegan ones are so tiny and expensive we make our own. Unlike your bargain pizzas which were HUGE until you divided them! Sometimes we just need convenience foods don't we?

  6. As Asda is part of our WalMart here in Canada, I wonder if we will be getting that deal over here soon? I hope so because as you say every little does indeed help!

  7. What a fun find to get a coupon for shopping there. I cut coupons out of the newspaper, and am happy if I get over 10% of my bill knocked off at the grocery.

  8. What a very good idea, I would usually just chuck it in the freezer, but you can get more out of it that way, and on the plus side we wouldn't be too greedy.

  9. I love a yellow label bargain, we've more or less been living off them for the past week or so, the freezer is stuffed with them, so using up instead of buying more food and squirreling away the saved food money :)

  10. Great idea about cutting up the pizzas before freezing. I do that with bigger packs of meat/bacon/sausages, but would have just bought the pizzas, thought "great for when people come round" and frozen them whole. Inspiring.

  11. Well I was very slow off the mark with the Asda Price Guarantee initiative. Fed in my last receipt after reading your blog and got a voucher for £2.96! I will remember to do this always in the future. Thanks for prompting me. Tracy
