We've Given All Our Money Away .....

We've given all our money away .... but in return we now almost own half of the very first house that we will have bought together.  Yes we have managed a whopping 50% deposit.  But our bank account is now a windswept and barren place.

Knowing our pockets are empty .....

... that we cracked open our piggy bank of savings for such a fantastic reason is brilliant.

We now just have all the formalities to finish off but until the keys are grasped in our own hands I don't think either of us will fully believe that everything that we have worked towards is finally coming together.  The picture at the top of this post is the back of our 'soon to be' house, when you see the front of it heading a Blog post you will know that we are the proud owners of the keys to the front door

Of course it does mean that from now on ...

... we have to clamp down on the spending.

Use every voucher ....

... every money saving tip ...

... all of them ....

... yes really every single one that we know of.

We will have to grow as much as we can ....

... make as much as we can ...

... make full use of everything we have,

and find all the best bargains ....

...so we can save all the pennies ...

... to feed our bank account back up so that we will be ready to pay off the allowed 10% overpayment that we can make on our brand new mortgage each year for the first two years and at the same time save like mad to be able scrape together by hook or by crook the means to be able to pay it off completely as soon as we are out of the 'penalty if you do' period.

But of course while we do all of this we will hold in our hearts and minds these very true words.

We will be rich, very rich because we will have -

each other

our families

our furry and feathered family members

hopefully - our health

a wonderful place to live

clean air to breathe

clean water to drink

love

and YOU

our dear Blogging Buddies, Followers and readers.

All of you that take the time to read and comment, that spur us on to greater and better things, commiserate with us when it all goes pear shaped, laugh with us (and at us) when it all turns out hilarious and have rooted for us every single step of this monumentous search for our Forever Home.

I now accept my Oscar for best leading lady ..........  oh sorry wrong speech.

All I want to say is THANK YOU

Sue xx

  2. This all sounds very exciting. Congratulations.

I am a bit confused though. I thought you'd already moved to the country and were trying to "live off the land". Feeling a bit dense at the moment!

    1. We started our 'new life in the country' just over four years ago, moving to an area closer to where LH works to save his commute, renting a farm with 10.5 acres while we made up our minds if this was the life for us, when our 3 years lease was up there we decided this was indeed the way we wanted to live, so we moved to the bungalow we currently rent with 4.5 acres and a much lower rent so we could save the extra money each month towards the deposit on our first purchase in the country.

We couldn't afford to buy in this area (Oxfordshire/Berkshire) so we had to look for places that we could afford and that would hopefully take us closer to family who all live up north in Cumbria, Lancashire and Scotland. North Wales has proved to be an excellent compromise, nearer to family but not quite the commute LH used to do when we lived in Cumbria.

Don't feel dense at all, there's always so much going on here I don't always know if I'm coming or going :-)

  44. That's brilliant news and I wish you every happiness in your new home. It's my dream to move to North Wales, we had a fortnights holiday there every year during the 1950's and 60's and I can still remember the amazing feeling as the train pulled out of Manchester on its way to Colwyn Bay. I still have to have my North Wales 'fix' every year and will hopefully move there in the not too distant future (just need to convince my husband). Have a wonderful life in your new home, you both deserve it xx

  47. Hi Sue and LH,
Sorry I am late (as always) but have been visiting family again.
What wonderful news, I am (obviously) so pleased for you, having been with you in spirit on your 'searches' over the last few months. The blogging community is a wonderful place, I have certainly felt more confident about being 'me' since being part of it, and feeling far less isolated during our ongoing travels. Really looking forward to seeing around the place. Enjoy the peace before the madness!!
