This is Daisy ..... all alone.
She used to hang around with her sister all day but now Poppy has turned into a naughty girl, she has her breakfast of layers pellets and then vanishes. The first time she did this I was really worried and thought she had been taken by a fox or had an accident. But that night and each night since, she has come home, had her supper and then gone to sleep in the henhouse as though she hasn't been away.
Daisy used to enjoy spending the day with her sister ....
.... but now she spends it instead with their husband, who she has all to herself while naughty Poppy does whatever she does while she's away from the flock.
Chickens ..... a law unto themselves!!
Sue xx
A bit like my cats, oh I would love to know what they get up to..........
ReplyDeleteMaybe she has a secret love all to herself? or she goes off for a quiet G&T and bask quietly in the sun x
ReplyDeleteWonder if you'll ever find her out?
ReplyDeleteI would start looking for a nest if I was you. Sounds like she is building a clutch of eggs to hatch. You might have to sneakily follow her and see where she goes.
ReplyDeleteThat was my first thought, but she is missing all day every day and home again at night. If she were laying ready for sitting she would only be missing for an hour or so each day while she laid each days egg until a clutch of eggs had accumulated and would then vanish permanently for 21-23 days. I am monitoring her as much as I can.
DeleteDo you want a pair of Muscovy ducks sue?
ReplyDeleteOne of the villagers needs a good home for her two....
I can't take any more drakes
Sorry I can't take these John.
DeleteI did answer on the post where you left me this question in the comments over on your blog. I can't eat duck or goose eggs, they make me seriously ill, and we already agreed between us when we sold the geese on that we would never again have geese or ducks, they are just too messy to be on the little patch of land dedicated to the chickens, sorry.
How funny to show these chickens as having such personalities. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteEach and every chicken has it's own personality, I don't think people realise just how intelligent and family orientated these birds are. Just one of the reasons that I don't eat them, the way they are kept for eggs and meat on a large scale is barbaric.
DeleteI have one that has started doing the same been going for about a week today I found her under the grass topper with 8 eggs, the pigs really enjoyed them, she would show her face at corn time and be back in the hen house at night it was just during the day she vanished.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if she were sitting, I'll just have to dig out the broody house whenever she appears with the chicks if this is the case. No sign of any eggs anywhere up to now though!
DeleteI've often seen chickens walking along the road where you live.
ReplyDeleteThat'll be our neighbours who own the camp site, his birds roam down the track and out on to the road, up to now none have been squished by passing cars :-)
