A More Welcome Little Visitor

This happy little chap runs round the fence of Chicken World on a regular basis, the chickens seems fascinated by him and have got used to his frequent presence.  Of course it may not be the same squirrel all the time, but somehow he just seems so at home there and as he only nibbles at a few layers pellets every time he visits he is a very welcome little visitor.

The 'unwelcome visitors',  the sheep are still in the paddock, at least I suppose we are getting the grass cut, but I'm still not happy.  Lovely Hubby will sort it all out this weekend I hope.  We need to really as we are putting up two runs of fences.

One will be on the far side of the new fruit trees, which will divide the paddock from the food growing area and one is going on the driveway side of where the poly and net tunnels will be.  Both will have a large gate for vehicular access and a smaller one for people, but which will be able to be opened together to let larger vehicles through.  It should make things neater and safer.  We will be able to padlock them and keep our trailers safer until the garages are built later this year.

We have a nice man with a 'post knocker' on his tractor coming to get all the large posts into place, so much easier and quicker than LH having to bash them all in with a sledgehammer like he did for Chicken World.

  2. I have to say we aren't too keen on squirrels. Each year they rob the walnut and the cobnuts.

    1. I'd be upset if they did that, but last year they did us a huge favour in clearing all the slightly rotting fallen apples off the grass which made everywhere very slippery so I'm being nice to them for now :-)

  5. I love squirrels, sweet little things. "Post knocker" it does what it says on the tin!! I don't know why but I found those two words really funny! I've obviously had a very hard week!

  7. We have a resident red squirrel in the garden, but it's very shy and we don't often see it.

  9. I have a soft spot for squirrels too. Lots of work for LH but the end result will be worth it & neighbouring sheep free !

  10. We have a pair of red squirrels in our garden. I would love to get a photo as one has a black tail but they are very shy and move too fast (the barking dogs probably doesn't help either!)

  12. We went to Braemar to walk by the river and waterfalls today and were hoping to see a red squirrel. We didn't see any but when we got out of the car we were amazed to see an enormous wild female red deer approaching us. She stood on the other side of the cattle grid and didn't seem at all afraid of us, so we went up to the fence at the side of it and she came up to us on the other side of the fence. Blimey, I had no idea red deer were so huge or friendly! She allowed us to stroke her nose then snuffled at my coat pocket. I think people have perhaps been giving her bits of food so she's maybe learned to hang around the parking area. What an experience though! We've only ever been close to deer in an enclosure but as I said, this one was roaming wild. It made our day x

    1. How wonderful!!

We had Red Deer on our land in Oxfordshire, but never ever got that close to them.

  13. Tree rats we call them round here! Not reds, reds are great but those horrid grey squirrels that kill birds and steal their eggs.

That sheep farmer is beyond cheeky. I'd be phoning him up and saying that if he doesn't collect in 24 hours you will drive them out onto the main road.

Opps been reading and lurking for a while. I'll try to comment more often as your posts are interesting
