The other day at Lovely Hubby's request I knocked us up a couple of batches of Juice.
Each batch contained the foods you see prepared and ready for juicing on the chopping board above.
It was only after I'd done both batches and drunk a glassful of the juice that I came to the conclusion ...
.... I'd rather have eaten the ingredients.

Just for fun .... which would you choose ?
You can have three glasses of Juice, each one a third of a litre over the course of the day
OR
Breakfast - Stewed Apple Compote with Lemon and Ginger
Lunch - Waldorf Salad on a bed of chopped Lettuce
(add some walnuts, sultanas and a tablespoonful of dressing to chopped apple, cucumber and celery)
Tea - Kale, Celery and Cucumber Soup
Served with either homemade croutons or a slice of crusty bread
Drinks - Coconut Water
Hot Water with Lemon and Ginger and a tablespoon of honey
Snacks - Apple, Celery Sticks

I've decided I prefer solids to liquids ..... well unless it's a black coffee, a skinny Latte or comes in a can marked Strongbow!!
Sue xx
As for me I'd much rather EAT than DRINK my food. Chewing encourages digestive juices, stimulates the jaws and sends 'happy' signals to the brain. If I want to drink I want water, tea, or (this time of year) some good crisp cider! *heh* Yay for Strongbow (or homemade brew)!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kris...give me solids any day, though I do like a glass of juice now and again.
ReplyDeleteFor time and convenience I would probably go for the juice but have a solid cake at the end of it!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this one, Sue - would rather be munching my way through the fruit and veg and feel I had eaten something!
ReplyDeleteEating would be lovely. But when pressed for time, the juice is very quick and convenient. Not much fibre in the juice either, so I think eating it might be healthier too.
ReplyDeleteI have tried the juice detox thing twice and both times I've lasted 2 days. I love veg juice but by day 2 I was actually gagging. Much prefer solids. I make soup with all sorts of veg so I get the fibre as well as the juice nutrients
ReplyDeletesolids here too, i got rid of my juicer because of the amount of waste(and washing up) it produced!
ReplyDeleteEats, every time!
ReplyDeleteFruit juices - you know, the ones that come in bottles of 75cl and you need a corkscrew to open them :-)

I always reckon veg & fruit for fibre and juices for instant hit of energy.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I have an absolutely hopeless addiction for fruit compote and have to put a lot of lemon rind in it which I don't like to stop me eating so much!
Humans are designed to EAT, not just drink. It's a no brainer so far as I can see. That notwithstanding I like Kathryn's take on it. Ted & bunny - if extra energy is required then you'd do better with a banana, or something like a couple of oatcakes, as these provide slow release energy rather than the "peak & drop" hit you get from a lot of sugar-heavy juices.
ReplyDeleteSolids! I've never been one for juices, but I'll join you for that skinny latte!
ReplyDeleteIf someone would clean the juicer for me I would prefer it over the solids. I love the juices.
ReplyDeleteI rehomed my juicer several years ago too. I couldn't stand the amount of waste that juicing created. I would rather eat the fruit and veggies. Also I was the only one in the household juicing back then and it felt quite anti social when it came to mealtimes not to be sitting down at the table eating with the rest of the family.
ReplyDeleteThat little menu sounds delicious :)
Definitely solids for me. I know the juices contain the same ingredients but I wouldn't feel as if I'd had a meal if I had to drink them.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a mix of both would be nice, but at the end of the day I would prefer solids.
ReplyDeleteTried that juicing thing once ... it didnt last long i'm afraid. You cant beat the crunch of an apple.

Both. Juice the hard stuff that I can't chew.
ReplyDeleteI do both, I do enjoy the juices very much (just don't like the cleaning of the juicer!) Juicing has enabled me to get back to my goal weight and maintain that weight. I feel healthier, fuller and happier when I juice.
ReplyDeleteI prefer solids to liquids but if cucumber soup was the solid I might just go without!
ReplyDeleteIt would be solids for me, the thought of veggies as juice makes me gag, sorry xx
ReplyDeleteSolids for me too, goes further and fills you up more - although I do eat a lot of soup in the winter and that seems to fill me up!
ReplyDeletesolids for me please !
ReplyDeleteJuicers here as well as solids. I recommend juicing to everyone :)
ReplyDeleteThere are many health benefits of juicing. Things like preventing and reversing disease definitely cant be denied. I have so much energy since I have started juicing (only once a day) and cut out meat and dairy. I cant believe how my skin, hair and eyes are so much better, and no dairy means no mucus :)
I like juicing some stuff as it enables you to get certain fruits all at one go so to speak but I have read that it is more beneficial to eat the fruit. Also, it seems to be more of a 'meal' than a juice. I must admit to being a bit lax with my fruit, although husband has apple and orange with his butties every day.
