Bank Holiday Monday

Well we braved the high winds and rain in Llandudno for an early morning walk with the dogs ..... they were not overly impressed and just dashed for the house when we got back.

We have fought with the computer all morning after installing Windows 10 on it last night.  I'm not impressed at the moment, apart from looking like a very basic, whiter than white, crisper version of our old Windows XP Professional it's just made it harder than ever to get to places I want to get to, find things I use regularly and has slowed our computer down so much I'm sat here tapping my fingers more than I am typing with them.  I will persevere and no doubt get used to it,  I'm not good at moving forward with things ... I like what I know and know what I like !!

Across the road now that the sun is briefly out is a typically Welsh Easter scene.  A field with ewes and their lambs baa-ing in the sunshine and rushing to feed when the urge takes them.  Thomas who owns the field opposite us is using it as a nursery field and every day there is a new set of mama and babies delivered  to the field, delighting in their new home.

Saturday's new arrival was a ewe who had lost her lamb at birth and a lamb whose mother had died at birth.  The little orphan lamb was wearing the fleece of the stillborn lamb (over it's own of course) and spent the day walking away from the ewe who was desperate to nurse it.  Thomas persevered in heavy rain to try keep the two together and in the end left them to it.

Yesterday the lamb was staggering around with the fleece waving in the wind looking like a sheepskin cape, but today I think it has all been worth it and little lamb is staying with his mama and all seems well ... can you tell we've been keeping a very watchful eye on developments ;-)

  1. Oh what a scene the super hero lamb must have been. I keep being told to install Windows 10 but we are resisting. We don't bank online, dowload music or films so are more than happy with our 8.1!

  2. Really hope the wee lamb is ok with his new mama. Also resisting Windows 10. My ancient laptop is hanging on by a thread and I fear an upgrade would finish it off!!

  3. Hope that all ends well! It's filthy weather to be a newborn lamb in!

  4. Usually once the lamb is hungry enough it will feed and then things are fine. Its harder to get the mother to accept the lamb, so this will be why the shepherd used the dead lamb skin. Growing up on our farm it was quite common for orphaned lambs to be 'adopted' like this ( or we would bottle feed them until we found a ewe for them - but usually Dad had a fight on his hands as we wanted to keep them as pets), but we didnt use the dead lamb skin. Our stillborn lambs were quite valueable and were used for 'lambskin shearling'
Im also resisting Windows 10, I shall have to be dragged kicking and screaming Im afraid.

  5. I've been instructed by the techie nephew to ignore windows 10. He says it does nothing to improve a laptop with a keyboard, it's tailored to tablets and notebooks - touch screen thingummies.

  9. Well, I was bombarded with the urging to instal Windows 10. I eventually did and found it disturbingly difficult. (not a Techno wizard). I think I spend a fair amount of download with it updating!!! I have become used to it - but would still go back to the old,if I could!!!
Love the lamb story and hope there is a happy ever after ending. Sheridan in Toowoomba, Queensland.

  10. Oh I'm so hearing you on the subject of getting used to new things, which ultimately just slow us down. So very frustrating! Every year at lambing time, I'm just like you, and on the lookout from every window of the house. What a delight to hear that you successfully matched up the odd pair. This is time consuming and sometimes full of disappointment, but oh so worth it when it works. We are surrounded by large farmers who don't care if they lose lambs, in fact they factor in the losses, but we continue to do all that we can to save every last one of ours. Quite often bottle feeding quite a little mob, but we wouldn't have it any other way. I love reading your stories about country life, just as well we're not neighbors or we'd be spending countless hours chatting at the fence. ;)
