Sucked In .....

I was sucked into the Christmas mass spending bonanza that was happening in Asda, trolleys piled high with all sorts of junk food whizzed past me, kids were screaming (or was that the Mums) Dads loitering in the electrical departments etc etc  .... I bought a box of cornflakes just because they had a picture of Santa on them that looked vaguely like my Lovely Hubby !!

We don't usually eat them unless we are on holiday, then the occasional half bowl while we are waiting for the cooked breakfast to arrive is a treat.  Well we will be on holiday so I guess they won't go to waste, and as a mad Christmas purchase they aren't that bad ... are they?

I'm sure someone will think so!!

Reverse Advent - Day 19

A Begonia plant that I bought for 50p from the Prestatyn Flower Show in the Summer to support a charity stall.  It was a tiny little thing that I nurtured to be a strapping thing in the last couple of months.  But it was time consuming and to tell the truth I didn't like it much.  I forgot to photograph it before it left so I raided Google Images for this picture which looks remarkably like it .... I wonder if it had been modelling when I wasn't looking.  ;-)

I hope it goes to a home where it will be loved a bit more, I do like the thought that this little plant will have supported two charities during it's lifetime, a heart one and a cancer one :-)

  1. I think the cornflakes are cute and pretty funny. At least they will get eaten rather than forgotten about and thrown out in the spring clean.

    1. That's how I use them dawn. Beats bought breadcrumbs any time.

    2. Brilliant idea, cheaper than Panko crumbs any day and almost exactly the same I guess. :-)

  3. Years since I ate any cornflakes - we have home made porridge. But I do agree with Dawn - they make a good alternative to breadcrumbs when crushed up.

  4. I would get sucked in if I saw that box. I wouldn't normally eat corn flakes, but would in this case.
The box I would keep forever, waiting for it to be put into a frame. Which would probably never happen, seeing I have loads of stuff waiting to be put into frames.
No, I'll never admit that I am a hoarder of some sort.

    1. Ooh, you've inspired me .... I might just laminate the packet front and use it as a Christmas decoration for the kitchen for years to come.

As you say if I leave it to be framed it will never happen!!

    2. Oh ! That's even a better idea ! Buy another one and laminate both. You can use them as placemats.

    3. I've never thought of laminating things to use them as pictures. What a brilliant idea!

  5. You can also use the corn flakes to make chocolate crunchies as a change from Christmas cake! See here: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2451649/cooking-with-kids-chocolate-cornflake-cakes- easy to make and very moreish.

  6. Just ate my favorite breakfast... plain yogurt,1/2 banana sliced,1/3C of Corn Flakes and a drizzle of honey (tastes like dessert!)

  7. Glad I don't have to go and do any more shopping. I would so get suckered in to buying that packet. It's gorgeous.

  8. I have to say I can see your point with the Santa box....I would have also been taken in with packaging!

  9. I like them drizzled with a little maple syrup or honey. I have a potato casserole that calls for a cornflake topping...mix flakes with a little melted butter and spread over casserole.

The front definitely needs to be laminated!

  11. I love begonia plants and the best thing is that yours supported two charities. Both are close to me as one month I had three stents put in my heart and the next month I was diagnosed with cancer. Thanks for donating! Judy

  12. Love the box! Love cornflakes, too! In fact, I just had daughter buy me a box because I thought it would be good for when I have nausea side-effects from the next chemo session! I second the suggestion to laminate or frame the box front - it'll make a great decoration for the kitchen!

  13. Cornflakes in the morning to me was like trying to eat razor blades. And the honey nut ones were so revolting!

  14. Cornflakes are nice. They've got to be Kelloggs though, cheap ones are awful.

  15. You can always use the box to do a vintage display, it made me think of my childhood.
I love flowers, but they never do here well in the winter.

  16. Hi Sue, I've just spent the last 2 weeks reading your blog from start to finish, I got absorbed in your story and followed the twists and turns like you would with a gripping novel. At some point when I'd spent a couple of hours straight reading your blog I did ponder on the thought that I should be living my own life instead of reading about yours but I feel that I've gained immensely.

The main thing that has fired me up is that I can't wait to get my veg garden producing more food, it's not a large plot but I've been a tad lazy and gone for things that look after themselves such as strawberries and raspberries but I could do so much more. I also bought a Nutribullet so I hope that I get the best out of that too.

The saddest part of reading the blog from start to finish was not seeing certain pets photos in your sidebar so I knew was reading about loved animals that were no longer with you.

I did something similar with another blog that I read from start to finish (Cold Antler Farm, a woman that left a corporate job in New York state and bought a farm that she can barely afford to run) and came away with a message from that too. Maybe the inspiration that I glean is intensified because of the block reading and that gets diluted if you read one post as a time?

I wish you well in your new home and I'm going to watch how the story continues....
