Anybody else sick to death at the sight of pancakes .....
... pictures of them in every magazine ...
... every supermarket has vast displays of ready to mix pancake batters, lines of spatulas, displays of frying pans, lemons by the kilo. I'm sick to death of the sight of all of them.
I most definitely WILL NOT be eating any pancakes tonight.
Nope ... not even a gorilla shaped pancake will tempt me.
I was almost tempted this morning when I read Dominic's blog post over at Belleau Kitchen, as I have the ingredients, they fit in well with me trying to avoid flour for a while and with my post on the NutriBullet yesterday... but NO ....
... not even if they smile at me!!
I'm all pancaked out ;-)

Aww, Sue! Today is my favourite day of the year - I love pancakes! I hope you have a good pancake-less Shrove Tuesday regardless :)
ReplyDeleteHardly noticed but then we don't have magazines or go in shops much. Looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteif Jess & Joe want some - they can make them !
ReplyDeleteI won't be having pancakes either, can't remember the last time I had one.
ReplyDeleteI've managed to miss all the consumerism bit of pancake day, only remembered yesterday! So long as I remember to get a lemon when I am out today i'll be having some for tea, sorry! x
ReplyDeleteNo need to apologise, enjoy ... you can have mine too ;-)
DeleteNot seen a big push for pancakes here, but then I don't visit shop very often and the magazine I get dosent really cover that sort of thing, as I don't follow religion I wont be joining in with Shrove Tuesday but those that do I hope they have a good one. :-)
ReplyDeleteI bet the vast majority of people won't even know the religious significance behind Shrove Tuesday, it's just been another thing hijacked by commercialisation.
DeleteWe're having pancakes for dinner tonight, but they'll be savoury ones, stuffed with minced lamb!
ReplyDeleteI saw Dominic's recipe last night, and as there was one lonely squishy banana in the fruit bowl and blueberries in the fridge, I had banana pancakes for breakfast this morning, and very nice they were too! I don't have a nutribullet, so the batter was wizzed up with a stick blender. I made them thick, like scotch pancakes, they took moments to make and were a lovely change from a bowl of cereal or a couple of poached eggs!
We have them any time of the year in all shapes/sizes/flours..but seeing them pushed in the shops et all is a bit off-putting!
ReplyDeleteThat's the best way to eat them, when you actually fancy them .... not when everyone and his aunty are having them because they have been told to and don't even know why!!
DeleteI'm not too keen on them so I wont be partaking. I will make the boys some later on though x
ReplyDeleteI will join you Sue, no pancakes here either, its Spag Bol for us tonight :-)
ReplyDeleteNo!!! It's the law that you make pancakes on pancake day!
ReplyDeleteSue, I do like pancakes, but too much of them makes me a bit nauseous...probably all the sugar. I made blueberry muffins for breakfast this morning.
ReplyDeleteI think everything is overdone these days. We're Christmassed out by November, I was sick of love hearts long before Valentines Day and we're surrounded by Easter in January!! Now it's Mothering Sunday stuff! No wonder I'm confused about what's happening when. It all seems to start earlier and earlier and goes on for ages, all 'special events' merging together.
ReplyDeleteI love pancakes but I baked cookies today for some visitors and will have pancakes another day as I'm out tonight! I walked into my local asda this morning and was greeting by a display of pancakes mix bottles and various other "necessities" it seems people need nowadays! I can't believe it! There are few things that are easier than making your own pancake batter from scratch! Is it just me?
ReplyDeleteOh no! We had pancakes (potato) yesterday, they are my husbands favourite. We don't hear or see anything about Pancake Tuesday here. My mum used to make them for us, years ago, when we all still lived at home. If someone saw you putting lemon juice and sugar on pancakes here they would think you were very weird. We have butter and maple syrup, or any kind of fruit syrup-just not on savoury ones!! Yesterday will have to do as we are not having them two days in a row! We actually prefer waffles to pancakes (the sweet ones).
ReplyDeleteMust admit, I enjoyed scoffing mine tonight :)

From Margie in Toronto - I'm saving up the pancake calories until Friday. A friend is meeting me for lunch and we always head to a small restaurant around the corner from my office - one order of peameal bacon and one order of gorgeous blueberry pancakes and then we split everything - can't wait. I would normally have pancakes more often, for supper as well as breakfast but since I eat them with real maple syrup I try to limit consumption.
