Windfalls..........

Well I've just come in from feeding in all the animals (and birds) and they are all busy tucking into tasty snacks. Not all provided by me, most courtesy of the blustery wind that is circling the farm.
~
It seems the Damson trees have decided to jettison what was left of their huge supply of fruit in the direction of the chickens, the Kune Kunes and the big pigs. Even though the pigs are in three seperate enclosures they all seem to have a fair share of the windfall.

The chickens are lucky in that they also have the old apple tree in their run, and that too has decided that the weight of the apples is now too much for the top branches and it was raining half eaten apples onto the chickens (the wild birds have been at them first). I originally thought all the yummy looking apples at the top of the tree were perfect until the first few fell down and I found them to be full of huge pecked out holes, oh well, at least we will have chubby little birds around here for Winter (no doubt Archie will be glad about that!!).
~
As the pigs were biting into the damsons and I heard the loud crunch of the damson stones and it reminded me of when the boys were little and I would tell them to think of their teeth when they crunched into boiled sweets and lollies (something I still do.....but then when you are a Mum you tell your kids what to do, you don't have to do yourself!!). It brought a smile to my face as I set off on the windy doggie walk with Sophie, Rosy and of course, Archie the cat.

  6. Great supply of windfalls. Ouch biting into a stone ! My girls have demolished some cooking apples which were a bit over to use so I popped them in the compost - where they didn't last for long !
