A Pat on the Back

~
Late yesterday afternoon I went to our local Garden Centre for a talk on 'Kitchen Gardens'. It was free for all Club members and you got a free cup of coffee and a free packet of seeds, as well as (most importantly to me), a sit down for an hour, which I don't often get.
~
~
I had hoped to pick up lots of tips, one thing us gardeners are always after are good tips and insights into other folks ways of doing things. Well guess what.......I already do all of the things that came up in the talk and then later in the question and answer session. In fact I could have elaborated on a lot of their answers to people and given more tips and more 'how to's' than they seemed to. Don't get me wrong I'm not being at all 'big-headed' it was just nice to come away feeling that for once I was doing it right, and the realisation of just how far I've come over the past few years made a warm glow. ~
~
So today, just for once, I am giving myself' 'a pat on the back', I'm a clever girl, I've used my time wisely, and I've listened to all the tips and hints I've been given over the last couple of gardening and growing years, and most importantly, what I've learnt has sunk in and is being put to good use.

Between us, me and my ladies can put the meal at the top of this post together at a moments notice. We are Clever Girls.
~
What do you do well, what would you give yourself a pat on the back for, there's bound to be something, large or small. For once give yourself credit and a HUGE 'Pat on the Back'.
~
Froogs are you reading this? I don't have to list what you do, your many followers have done it for you, revel in all the 'pats' you've had from other folk....you deserve EVERY one.
~
Have a good weekend everyone, I'm back in the Kitchen Garden if you need me.

  1. If I sit and think I could possibly give myself a bit of a tap, but my talents don't match yours. I envy the instant meal on a plate, just to have chickens would be good. But I'm happy with my lot and am now off to check out your friends blog. Well done you and have a good weekend.

  2. Jenny - don't be so bashful; you have so many talents - not only are you incredibly talented at sewing but you are so kind and accepting of others.
As to me - I suppose my tap on the back is my work with the pupils at school, helping each to achieve their potential.
Sue - I really envy your ability to produce such a meal - it looks really delicious

  3. I was only thinking yesterday that I've slipped back into never being satisfied with what I've done and always thinking it could've/should've been better.
Soooooooo, this is perfectly timed for me as I reach round tentatively for a little pat...

I'm really pleased with what I've achieved with Bruce because we've both had to really work on confidence and trust- and there's been some VERY scary moments (a bolting horse is no joke!!) but we've come through and found a bond and he seems so much more settled and relaxed- and I guess I am too!

Thankyou for causing me to think and write that down,; I feel quite pleased with myself!

Have a lovely weekend dear Sue

  4. Hi sue..i have sat and pondered this ..what would i give myself a pat on the back for..hubs did if for me bless him..he said i've gone from a margo to barbara..private joke..but he is right..last yr i would have bought stuff, food etc..from this time last yr i have cooked from scratch, sewed for the first time, baked daily, and have budget skills the chancellor can only dream of...so i am patting myself on the back for a total life change and i love every minute of it...still got lots to learn but i'm 43 yrs young and aim to be over 100 when i decide to depart this life..

  5. I just asked Chris what I am good at, he said "caring for us all" (meaning the humans, cats and birds in the family) then he added "that includes all the food and baking!"
The way to a man's heart.....

  6. it's good that you could take the time to bask in that well earned glow! I'm a lazy cook who loves yummy foods, so one thing I do well is find recipes that are super easy, make and repeat, if that counts!! ;)

  7. Some lovely comments - Thank you.

Jenny - to be 'happy with your lot' is worth a pat on the back for a start, all to often we search for more, to be happy with your lot is to have arrived!!

Viv - to be there nuturing the next generation is worth a HUGE pat, well done you!

Bunny - to cope with a bolting horse deserves a medal - that you have coped and brought out his trust must be immensely rewarding (I'm not a 'horsey' person but my sis-in-law is and she had to do something similar with her last horse, so I know the hard work and determination involved). A few well earned pats for you I think.

Sara - to have gone from 'Margo to Barbara' is brilliant, I still have 'Margo like' moments, usually when I am slipping and sliding in the mud....do you remember the bad weather harvest episode when she was rigged out in bright yellow sailing stuff and slipping and sliding around with one potato at at time? You sound like you have worked wonders in the home recently. Pats for you.

Sounds like you have your mans' heart Jane. I think it's lovely that he notices your 'caring', all too often little things can be taken for granted, nice to know that the things you do aren't.
