We've spent this morning taking down the Christmas decorations, they were up a tad longer than usual due to us having family and friends round over New Year. The tinsel, the baubles that sat in bowls because we didn't bring the little tree in this year, and all the little sparkly bits and pieces are safely contained in this box until next year.
The outdoor lights and tinsel are down, dried and packed away and added to the top of the box. I loved the look of the house outside at night so we will repeat it next year and have left the hooks in place as they can't be seen.
The house is now looking deliciously bare. I love it.
I did a good clean up of all the surfaces after everything was safely packed away and after this photo was taken and then put our few 'normal' bits and pieces back after washing and cleaning them. Next I had a minor shift around of plants and then ran the hoover round the downstairs.
Life is back to normal.
The few Christmas sweets that are left are now contained in a glass jar, all the rest were given to my son to take for the grandchildren and the things he didn't eat or want to take will be donated to the Foodbank trolley next time I am in Sainsbury's.
Our healthy eating plan and a push to lose weight starts in earnest on Monday ... I always find Monday is a good day to start .... only this time it's not ending on Wednesday!! ;-)
Now we are off to brave the weather and walk the dogs around the prom in Llandudno. Fresh, clear space in the house and fresh air in our lungs, it all bodes well for the year ahead.
I'll be back with my musings about what I'm up to this coming year tomorrow.
Sue xx
It's fun having Christmas lights and decorations up but you cannot beat how lovely it looks when you go back to simplicity. It's so calming!
ReplyDeleteWhat nicer a way to start the year than a clear house and fresh air. Enjoy!
Our (minimal) decorations come down tomorrow...shouldn't take us long at all.
ReplyDeleteYour outside looks very welcoming.

Our decorations came down yesterday and at first it looked bare then I decided it was lovely and tidy, it felt good to be back to normal.
ReplyDeleteWe de-decorated on New Years Day...so glad to have things back in place. I'm very claustrophobic, so having all those extra decorations kind of get to me after a while. I like simple.
ReplyDeleteWe've just got our tree up now - have taken other things like cards down. Look forward to hearing your plans for 2015!
ReplyDeleteHappy New year to you and hubby Sue , we have just returned from spending Christmas in France, I have just been catching up on all your posts, your conservatory is lovely, I love your reviews of the year and all the pet pictures, hope 2015 brings you happiness x
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Sue. Our decorations are still up, I just can't bare to take them down. I've started to clear away some of them but the tree is still up in all it's glory. It is so cold and wet outside today having the decorations up still is allowing me to hold onto Christmas just that little bit longer x x x
ReplyDeleteWe took ours down today too, I love how the house looks so much bigger with everything gone.
ReplyDelete"deliciously bare" - perfect description, I also love how clean and sparse everything looks once the decorations are down. We took everything down on New Year's Eve so started the new year lovely and tidy - if only it would last!
ReplyDeleteHi sue - I love getting back to normal, it's veg and more veg here
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I'm afraid I took mine down at the start of the week!! I've also taken the opportunity this week while I was in the mood to have a massive declutter and yes it looks deliciously bare too :-)
ReplyDeleteDecs coming down tomorrow then a good dust & vacuum on Monday. I shall keep a few tealight holders out to brighten the dark nights !
ReplyDeleteOurs come down 12th Night but yeas I love it when it is all bare looking again :)
ReplyDeleteI removed my deccies yesterday. It looked a bit bare at first glance, but we soon got used to the normal, all the time look again. I`m also looking forward to making some ajustments for our dieting. And, I can`t wait to be able to get cracking in the garden again, soon.
ReplyDeleteI thought I had taken everything down, then realised the huge greenery decoration is still wrapped around the bannister!!! I must have been walking around in a dream not to have noticed it. Diet time for me as well on Monday.
ReplyDeleteWe are taking our decs down on the 5th and then I will be giving the house a good fettle on Tuesday.

I love having the house decorated for Christmas, but then start to get a bit twitchy by the 30th! I absolutely live the feeling of cleanliness, space and simplicity that you get once they've all been tidied away.
ReplyDeleteWe took down our Christmas decorations yesterday and put them in the attic today. The tree is still in our living room with just the lights on it, and soon we will put it away til December.
