It gave up the ghost ......

Way back in 2010 I was asked by a company to review some of their products, I was given free rein to choose anything I wanted from their website and chose two products that I really needed and one that I wanted.  See HERE for the original post.

Yesterday one of the items, my salad spinner gave up the ghost on me, well a bit of plastic flew out of the lid and it no longer spins ... not good for a salad spinner!!  Until I looked back on the blog I had no idea that this has been in regular use for the last six years.  Definitely a product I would recommend, now I just have to find a replacement that will hopefully last me as long,

I have a plan to use the main body of the spinner and the basket as a planter, maybe for herbs on the kitchen windowsill, but I can't think of anything that I can do with the broken lid, I can't even get it apart.  So I will put it in the recycling box and see if they can take this kind of plastic.

Something else that are still in daily use and going strong are the tea towels that we were sent, five years ago and posted about HERE it seems that some things are made to last.

  1. My salad spinner is a tea towel shaken outside the back door.

    1. I used to do that, but I must say I prefer how the spinner gets the leaves, and I have found that leaves last longer in the fridge after being in the spinner compared to how they used to last with the tea towel method.

  2. We really need one of these - I remember having one when I was living at home and I loved seeing how fast I could make it go ;-)

    1. I think it was me being other-enthusiastic with the spinning that caused it's demise :-(

I will be nicer to it's replacement when I find the same model again.

  3. I have a few things in my kitchen that I have had all my married life - things were meant to last in those days.

    1. The only thing that has lasted all my married lives (26 the first time and 12 years together this) are two teaspoons that I 'acquired' from my Mum's cutlery drawer when I moved out.

  4. Ha ha, put your salad in the green basket, sit it in one of those tea towels then step outside and holding the edges of the towel spin your arm in a big circle! At least till you get a new one.

    1. Haha ..... I think there's every chance I would let go and lose the lot over the hedge, much to the shock of a passing motorist!!

  5. I've never been offered a salad spinner. Cards yes, salad spinner no. Anything else, no.

    1. I used to get offered all sorts of things, but I refused everything that wasn't entirely in keeping with our ethos.

I did say yes to a waterproof jacket, a big box of onions and condiments, gardening gloves and some gardening tools once .... all of which are still in regular use today ... well apart from the onions ;-)

    2. Yes Sue, it may not be the first word in smart unlike your one but it was second hand to us and is still going strong after being used at least several times a week by me for the past 30 years. They used to make things to last :-).

  7. I bought one at Aldi for $6(Australia) today. I've never had one as I've always used a tea towel. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

    1. It's been one of the most used items in the kitchen, you'd never guess it was six years to look at it. I'm sure it was just my over-enthusiastic pressing of the lever that has sent it to an early grave :-(

  8. I love that colour green, I would use it as a fruit bowl.

    1. We don't eat a lot of fruit and what we do have is stored in the fridge after picking, or that would have been a brilliant idea :-)

  9. Mine broke too, the lid and the bowl part. I use the basket for gathering in my garden. Carry the goods up to the house and turn the house on the contents. Great little item that keeps on giving in a new incarnation.

  10. I sometimes am very glad of my days as a Tupperware lady - I didn't ever eat salad in those days but had to get one for my kit. When I gave it up, I loaned it to my sister to use as she was then catering for a club canteen every weekend. So it got a very regular use every weekend for about a year before I got it back and by the time I got it back I had actually started to eat salad occasionally and was able to use it myself. In the ten years since then I've become a total convert and now it's in regular use. The lid (the separate lid for storage, not the spinner lid) is a bit less sparkly new looking than it used to be but otherwise it looks just the same as it did. Anyway, I don't work for Tupperware in any way anymore but I'd still highly recommend their spinner (I think it's red and white these days, so might not be the colours for you). Mine, at any rate, is still going after a very long time.

  11. I have a Tupperwear salad spinner, bought it ten years ago and it is still going strong. Just delivered in a broken lunch box. They replaced the broken underneath and reused the old top. I am very pleased. Loove things to last. Pam in Norway
