Because I'm Worth It..........

A while ago, I think it was at the beginning of last year (or maybe even the one before) I was asked to be an Aveeno tester, I have to admit it I said yes mainly for the free products they were about to throw at me.  I duly tested them for three or four weeks, fillled in the little online questionnaire each week and then gave my final findings.

I found the products brilliant, my skin improved, indeed it glowed for the first time in years, the only downside I found in the products was the excess packaging, so when they asked as the final question on the last questionnaire if I would buy the products again I said a firm NO.  I would have loved them to follow this up and find out why I had said no after my glowing reports (and skin) on the previous questionnaires, but they didn't.

Immersing myself in my frugal ways I started using supermarkets own version of my regular products, they were good, almost as good as the regular products I had previously used, and massively cheaper, but they were not a patch on Aveeno.

After all the trauma and stress of the last year, my skin care regime was regular but perfunctuary, doing the basics but not really caring for it if you know what I mean.  Well it's all caught up with me and last weekend I realised just how tired, dreary and drab I looked.  Maybe it's not all me and my lack of care, maybe some of it is the lack of sun, the desperate need for warmer weather and sunshine to lift all of our spirits and give us that push to care for ourselves a bit more.

Well last week I bit the bullet went to Boots the Chemist and treated myself to the full range of Aveeno skincare products I started using them just two days ago and already I'm feeling brighter and smoother of face.  Yes, it all came to around the £50 mark (I bought some handcreams as they were on special offer and two of the Day Creams), but as another advert on the tele says.....

its......Because I'm Worth It !!

What do you splash out on in spite of being frugal in other ways?

I must point out that this is not a sponsored post in any way, it's merely a recommendation of a good product that I am going to continue using.  But if Aveeno want to send me anything else to test............!!  Lol.

  1. My extravagant brand is Dr Hauschka skincare - quite a lot of money but it makes me feel really nice when I am using it :)

  2. I always use Aveeno for all our family - it is excellent and I use it in favour of all skin care and moisturising creams - even on my face

  3. Umm, nothing. I don't use any expensive products and I don't believe the expensive ones with the same ingredients work any better than the other ones. (It's all in your head, as they say, lol). I don't really think any skin care product will make my face look any younger or more "vibrant". I am 43, I look the way I look because this is how I am supposed to look.

  4. I use clinique make up products, not the most expensive, but not cheap either.

  5. Everything I use is vegan so whatever it is, it's expensive!

  6. We bought a Harrison Beds pocket sprung mattress three years ago for £450 (£50 off the rrp.) It is fabulous and my everyday aches and pains have subsided. We have a simple wooden bedstead made by a carpenter 16 years ago for £100 that is still going strong. We had never before spent so much on a mattress but it was worth every single penny.

  7. I've used Estee Lauder cosmetics for many years but a couple years ago I thought I'd give Clinique a try. I was having some unexplained redness patches on my face and I wondered if age was catching up with me. So, I switched and used Clinique for about a year, but they certainly weren't like Estee. I went back to Estee and I felt so much better about myself and the way I looked. Come to find out, the redness I was having with my skin we a reaction to hair dye. My scalp was also developing itchy bumps that never went away. I quit coloring my hair right after that and all my skin and scalp issues went away. That PPD in hair dye is bad stuff, ladies!!

  9. I invest in a good hair cut every 8 weeks or so. I'm going grey and have decided not to cover that up, but my visit to the hairdresser to have it cut into a style that suits me makes me feel and look better so is worth every penny.

  10. I just dropped some splurge-money on Neutrogena. I bought the light sesame body lotion, the body oil and Rainbath gel. For the same reason you got all that Aveeno. I also did it for hubby because I knew he would like it too. Aveeno is not gender-specific, so that makes it a little more sensible IMO!

  11. Just thought you might find it useful to know that Aveeno is available on prescription - it is exceptionally good for eczma sufferers and my oldest son has been using it for the past 10 years on scrip - I get to pinch a bit and it use on my face/body it's brilliant (I do have some Olay that I use at night sometimes but always come back to Aveeno).

  12. I'm afraid the most extravagant I get is the 11p teabags I put on my eyes. They're normally already used tea bags aswell.

Mind you, you haven't seen how bad my face looks. Teabags are about right!!

I think you should definitely trat yourself.

  13. Good teas (Redbush, camomile etc - loose from tea merchants) and good skin care. I buy Liz Earle because it is additive and alcohol free and not tested on animals. I have extremely sensitive skin and this works well for me xx

  15. Some brilliant comments, I'm so pleased that lots of you treat yourselves to things that make your life better and easier. We are ALL worth it

I love the sound of the comfy mattress Attila, a good nights sleep is the first beauty treatment we should ALL go for.

Colleen, you've just opened my eyes and confirmed what my hairdresser said last week, only she thought it could be all the stress I've been under recentl. My scalp is red, sore and itchy, and YES I've been colouring my hair for years. I must stop NOW!! I've heard and read a lot about PPD in hair colour over the course of the last few days so I think I will do as Scarlet does and just stick with a good cut from now on.

I don't think I could get Aveeno on prescription, it would work out more expensive for most things, I will just get stocks in whenever there is an offer on and be a little bit frugal that way.

    Have a lovely weekend folks.

  16. Well I think fifty quid for the lot is great ! A friend introduced me to Dr Haushka but it's way too expensive for me. Other friends use Clarins & for a while I used Clinique anti redness range but it made my skin dry.
Nothing special these days so might give yours a try !

After awful teenage acne it seems that nature is giving me something back - though quite reddish, my skin looks good I think & very few wrinkles.

Shame they didn't contact you after the test. I like simple packaging.
You are worth it Sue - enjoy your treat !

  17. Yay sue15cat!!! I had no clue why my scalp was just as you described but once I found a web site for women that want to "transition" to their natural hair color and stop using dye, I learned about PPD. There was even a lady posting on there that she went into anaphylactic shock and ended up in the hospital. We don't realize that we're poisoning our bodies. Every time you color you're adding to the danger of a reaction.

  18. My sister buys expensive face creams, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend on them. Basic Avon, or Value stuff for me. My treat is B & B's when I go walking, and even then I don't want to pay too much. I hate being ripped off.
