Archie the Cat

Our year has ended in the worst possible way.

Our beloved cat Archie was hit and killed by a car early this morning.  I have not the words to express how sad we are both feeling at the moment.  He was our world, the first pet we bought home together just one week after our marriage.  We chose him as a tiny nine week old  kitten at an RSPCA rescue centre, having to make the difficult choice between him and his identical brother, but when Archie hopped down from the climbing frame onto Lovely Hubby's shoulder and rubbed his beard with his gorgeous little face the decision was made.

He was the cat that curled up in the smallest of baskets ...

.. jumped into boxes large and small ...

... draped himself over any warm lap for an evening of snoozing.

He basked in the sunshine on all our farms ...

... and was always happy to pose for a photograph.

He curled up with his friends the dogs, shared their food and their water, if they got grumpy with him he would brush against them and make them love him again.

He will be walking for ever in the sunshine with his best doggie friend Sophie.

RIP Archie
11th October 2007 - 31st December 2013

Thank you for all your lovely words yesterday - they help.

  6. So sorry - I know the terrible feelings since my boy died just a few weeks ago. But time the great healer will help you through this I know. You will be able to think of him without the dreadful weight of sadness but only gradually. This couldn't have come at a worse time for you could it? My thoughts are with you.

  11. Tears streaming down my face as I read this terribly sad news... its so hard when we lose a much loved part of the family. I share your sadness in another way as my eighteen year old cat who is also my world is slowly losing his fight for life... and I know full well it will not be long before he passes into the next world. So tonight my heart is breaking for both of us... Much Love, Jane xxx

  15. Oh Sue. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Being huge animal lovers here too I feel absolutely gutted for you.
I hope you may both take a tiny bit of comfort in knowing that he had a fantastic life with you and was loved very much. Some animals never get that. Perhaps you may find a space in your hearts and home one day to love another little soul who needs a home.

  26. Forgot to add that when we went to the Cats Protection League to pick our second cat, she also chose us. She was in a tiny cage with her brother and she was pawing at the cage door and absolutely yowling! She was a sight, not a pretty cat at all, had ear mites and an extremely upset tum. The staff tried to steer me towards a healthier cat but by that time, puss was in my arms and had chosen me. She was the nicest natured animal ever. I still miss her years later x

  61. Oh no - beautiful tribute to your beautiful boy! Xx

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh no! I always loved reading about Archie, he was such a great looking cat and showed much character. This is so unfair and cruel. When we moved to our present cottage we lost our male cat in the same way, and my heart breaks for you to start a new life like this. I know it is little comfort, and we never know why these things happen to good people and animals, but at least you know how happy he was with you and that he loved his life. x

That's a beautiful post you've written about him too - I also did one for ours so I know how many tears were shed in the writing of it xx
