Emptying the Sealed Pot

It's that time of the year ... when the Sealed Pot spews forth it's undigested coins and the occasional bit of paper.

Filmed for posterity.

And then carefully counted.

We had a grand total of £325.96, as you can see from Alan's workings out here.

Most definitely not for us the paying of a machine in the supermarket to count our hard fought for pennies and deduct ten percent for the privilege, although at this time of year you see loads of people doing just that.   I have heard that some banks have cash counting machines ... but unfortunately ours is not one of them so we did it  the old fashioned way  :-(

After counting the money, double checking it all and then bagging into the banks acceptable amounts for paying into our account ...

... we decided to put the odds and sods back into the tin to see if we can add any extra to round things up before we visit the bank.  You never know a little bit more would be very handy in time for next years Challenge   :-)

  1. My bank will only accept 5 bags in any 24 hours. I've just sorted my grandchildren's money box and it had £13 of old £1 coins in it too! The bank have taken them.

  6. Well done. You are very lucky to have a local bank to pay it into. Ours closed in June and now we have to go twenty odd miles - all very inconcenient.

    1. All the local banks have closed now, we have to travel into Llandudno which is just over 16 miles away.

  7. A goodly sum! We haven't opened ours yet, but it won't be anywhere near yours. I think ours is mainly copper with a few of the lower silver pieces. Still, better than nothing.
We kept the same branch of our bank in Devon when we moved to Wales. There was never any need to change it. Just before we left Wales they wrote to tell us that that particular branch was closing and gave us a couple of alternative branches in Devon. Having now moved back to Devon one of the alternative branches is closer to us than our original.

  8. Well done! I might start doing this. We bank online but can pay into the post office direct into our account. I have a large bag of odds and sods of coins sitting on my desk now. Hmmm

  11. I am planning to have a sealed pot next year. It will start in the first week of January and be opened in the last week of December. It will be interesting to see how much it contains when it is opened.

    1. We're in the planning stages at the moment, discussing exactly what we hope to achieve over the course of next year ... but it will be spent wisely, and more importantly blogged about ;-)
