I have my head firmly buried in the sand .....

Or maybe even a blindfold.

I went shopping yesterday and in the charity shops there were Christmas cards and in Tesco there was a huge humongous display of tubs of sweets.  You know the ones, stack after stack of Heroes, Quality Street, Roses etc etc.

It is not nearly Christmas, it is not nearly Christmas, for goodness sake we have Halloween, Bonfire Night et al to get through first.  And the kids have only just gone back to school .... is society really trying to ramp up the excitement four months before the day, the poor little things will explode before  then in an excited fireball?

I'm going into hibernation (it's currently cold enough to make me want to), well either that or absolute minimal shopping so that I don't have to see the first outbreak of tinsel and sparkle.

Bah Humbug!!

  1. It's everywhere! Some of the charity shops had their Christmas cards on display at the end of August too. Although I've steered clear of it just yet I did receive a rather nice Christmas Dogalogue from Guide Dogs through the post recently full of lovely stuff. We also opened a tub of chocs last night to accompany Strictly!

  6. During August, every year, the big garden centre near us starts with there Christmas display!! I haven't given up for the year on my garden and your bombarded with Christmas. I like you chose the 'head in the sand' method, at least until school half term. Sarah

  8. I haven't seen any displays yet but I'm sure it won't be long before I do. Plenty of customers at the charity shop have mentioned their plans already though.

  11. I'm with you. Two card shops near me have cards on the shelves at the beginning of August, I know because I was in there choosing a card at the beginning of August for my grand-daughter, and said in a rather loud voice to my husband we haven't had August Bank holiday yet!
I don't think about Christmas until 27th November, my son's birthday is the 26th!

  14. I thought that was an American thing. I guess it's everywhere. I remember when I was small we put the tree up about 4 or 5 days before Christmas and shops only started to put Christmas displays out after the first of December.

  16. and you should feel for those of us who keep shops. I have a quilt shop and Christmas and Halloween begin arriving in April. We have to unpack it, mark it, and find a place to put it 6 months ahead of the season.

  19. I am a huge Christmas fan! However, I totally agree that it's getting ridiculous how early they gear us up for it! Kids must be at bursting point by December! I wouldn't say no to a tin of Quality Street right now though... :)
