Below the Line - Day 3 - Missing......

Well here we are on Day 3 already
~
Yesterdays Spend
~
Porridge for Breakfast - 10p
3 Cups of Coffee - 24p
Pasta and Sauce for Lunch - 10p
Snack of 2 meringues with Lemon Curd 1p (meringues already costed in on Day 1)
Rice and Curry Sauce for Tea - 8p
Scone, with butter and Jam - 11p
Total - 64p
~
Yesterdays lunch, pasta with half a jar of my homemade pasta sauce and a sprinkling of dried cheese and a cup of coffee.
~
Tea was 100g of rice with half a jar of Curry Sauce, pictured at the top, an excellent buy at only 5p a jar (the jars themselves are dearer than that if you have to buy them for jam making purposes).
~
For after tea I made up another 100g of my Scone Mix and turned it into one large Scone.
~
It was lovely with a smear of baking butter and a couple of spoons of homemade Bramble Jam.
~
Throughout each day I have three cups of coffee and the rest of the time when I'm thirsty I have tap water. Because of the area we live in this has to be filtered and then put in the fridge for a couple of hours to make it drinkable. Seeing what it does to the inside of the kettle after just one boil if left unfiltered I dread to think what it does to your insides!!
~
~
So what am I missing most........SPARKLING WATER! I only buy the cheap stuff from the supermarkets, but I love it and drink at least a bottle a day usually, which is why although it's only 16p a bottle, it was out of my price range for this week, food was more important. ~
I'm off to make lunch now, I'm having another of my bread rolls with egg mayo and a few herbs sprinkled on top with my next cup of coffee. Yummy!!

  1. Sue you need to invest in a sodastream! I bet you could get one off freecycle or ebay- think of what you could do if you saved 16p a day...! ;0)

  2. H - I used to have one but the cylinders and extra bottles worked out more expensive, plus we re-use the water bottles (and our empty plastic milk bottlels) for our 'Worm Tea' a by-product of our compost business, and sell that at the Farmers Markets, otherwise we would have to buy bottle specifically for this. So 16p a day is a pretty good investment really. Thanks for the input though.

  3. Sparkling water was the first thing to go when we went frugal. At 1$ for a bottle it saves us money and reduces our carbon footprint.

  4. Sue, you are doing brilliantly. What are you doing with the pence you save each day?
Could you have a fizzy water treat or is it too late now.

  5. Sft - my budget is all spent (well I have 2p over actually, it was 3p over but I needed 5 more sweeteners and at 0.2p each it cost me a whole penny).

The main reason I ran out of money and I couldn't afford the water is because you are supposed to only buy whole packs of food not just the weights you actually need, so I will most likely have some food over at the end of the five days, otherwise the Sparkling Water would have been well within budget - it's a shame!
