Cats ..... and Lazy Folk

This picture of Ginger is simply here because I love it!!

I came out of the polytunnel last night after giving everything a good watering to find Ginger sat on the gatepost wating for me.  He likes to sit up on the posts, I think it gives him a real sense of being cleverer than the dogs if you see the look on his face sometimes as he watches their activities way down on the ground.  It had been a scorching hot day and even with the door left open all day everything was parched in the polytunnel, not bad for North Wales in September!!

I'm not complaining at all, this late in the season sunshine is lovely.

The 'Lazy Folk' part of the title .... well I bought this brand new full bottle of Sanctuary body lotion, my absolute favourite and one of the few perfumed things I can tolerate on my skin, for 50p at a car boot sale last weekend.  The reason the lady was selling it was that 'it was too hard to get it out of the bottle' !!

Yes it was, it just would not be squeezed out at all, so I simply took the whole top off and squeezed it all into an empty jar .....

... turning it upside down overnight to get every last little drop out of there, and even running my little finger round the inside of the neck of the bottle to get it all.  This would have cost me £5.50 if I had had to go out a buy one in Boots.  So for a bit of effort I have a bargain, and that's just it ... a little bit of effort is all it took.

Is it just me or do so many people want everything super easy these days.  I appreciate things much more when I have put in just a little bit of my time and imagination to them.  Life shouldn't be all about ease and no effort, yes it's lovely occasionally, like having a ready meal now and then, but when you take the time to do something properly, like prepare a meal from scratch, the preparation or the squeezing out of every last bit of body lotion, becomes so much more a part of what you have.

I'm jumping off my little soapbox now ;-)

  1. Ginger just knows he's a superior being, in common with all cats!
Talking of lazy people, did you see last week's episode of 'Eat Well for Less'? The young woman used pre packed ready sliced cheese because slicing cheese was tiring and boring! She also, when seeing a lime, didn't know what it was but thought it might be a guava! Fortunately she seems to have realised how silly she was being and is now learning to buy and cook properly, from scratch!
Laziness of that sort amazes and disgusts me!

    1. I love that programme, yes I sit open mouthed with amazement at most of it, but hopefully it's doing some good educating lots of folk similar to the ones appearing in it. It's on again tonight ;-)

  2. We used to have 2 cats who played together and I heard that whichever cat gets up the highest (eg. table, branch, etc), he/she has the "power" over the other cat.

As for laziness, I'm amazed when looking in the supermarket at just how lazy a person could be if they chose to be! EG. Fresh mashed potato, ready chopped onions and other miscellaneous fruit & veg - all at a premium cost of course. Waste of precious money. (P.S. Where we live, it's very hard to find ginger kittens - I had a lovely one in 2007 - "Tony" - had him neutered at 5 months of age and he went missing one night aged 7 months never to be seen again - after placing many adverts and posters and contacting the usual rescues, etc. he never returned - I assume (hope) he was taken in by someone). 1. Awww .... I hope he was. Lots of cats do decide to move home. We had a lovely little girl cat who got fed up with living with us, and being bossed around by her brother. She went to live with a lovely elderly lady further up the road from where we lived. We saw her out and about on occasion but she always looked away from us and dashed back to her new home.

  3. We use Aveeno cream in a pump dispenser. When cream no longer comes out of the pump, I cut the bottle in half. Its incredible how much cream is still in the bottom - almost an inch sometimes - and keeps us going for another couple of weeks at least.

Our shampoo bottle is turned upside down permanently, which saves time getting it out while showering, and also uses up every last drop.

    1. Aveeno cream is the hardest to get out of it's pump dispenser in my opinion, I'm thinking of not buying it from now on and buying the tubes instead, they're much easier to cut into :-)

    2. My family laugh at me for cutting toothpaste tubes open, but there's always several days worth left in there :)

    1. He's got a lovely soft face for a boy cat hasn't he. He nearly always photographs well and turns obligingly for me when I want a shot .... I think he realises how beautiful he is :-)

  5. I'll jump on your soap box, now that you've come off it.
I'm full of astonishment when I see how far people 'have come' in the human evolution - insert rolleyes here. Everything to make our life easier has become available, like cubed cheese or salami as nibbles, wrapped up in very alluring packaging. And that's just a minute section of the inability or want to just put the slightest bit of effort in anything and everything.
What often goes with this kind of attitude is the enormous amount of waste that goes with it. They also seem to lack the ability to use common sense and throw away perfectly good food ( because the package says it goes out of date tomorrow) or other material goods that they get tired of.
With all this 'comfort' people have lost everything that is natural to us to live, let alone survive (if ever that day comes).
It is not rocket science what you've done to get the lotion out of a bottle. But hey, I bet it made your day. ;-)

I love your Ginger ! I've only ever had one ginger cat in my lifetime and that was over 30 years ago.

  7. Hear hear! Some folk are just too lazy for anything. We all have our moments. There are always upside down bottles all over the place in our house. Then I squeeze and scrape to get the last little morsel (especially strawberry jam!). Your Ginger is lovely. My first cat was a ginger called 'Motorboat Monday' or Monday for short, because he purred so loudly! Ann x

  8. So glad I am not the only one that gets on a soapbox at times at the waste and laziness of people. The people who are the laziest I find are the ones with the most time on their hands.
Love too the fact you cut open tubes to get the last dredge out and put things upside down - many a day there will be bottles of things upside down in my house draining to get that last drop out. Have even got to the extreme of when we lived in an apartment and grabbed all the "empty" washing liquid bottles out of the trash and managed to do a few more loads for myself, all because it was too much effort to drain the last dredge out!
PS love your blog but have no idea how to follow it but read it every day!

  9. I'm with you....I'd be finding a way to get that out of the container as well. And you are right about people expecting "instant gratification" these days. Your Ginger is so cute up on that post!

  10. You hit on two of my favourite subjects today Ginger cats and lazy people.
I'm with Legaleagle re last weeks programme of Eat well for Less. Th e wife seemed proud of herself to start with. Like everyone else was stupid for peeling their own carrots and not knowing when to throw food away because they obviously wanted to poison their families while she knew better.
That paragraph doesn't read too well but I am too lazy to change it!!

  11. Couldn't agree more. It astonishes me how lazy some people are. Went to the shop the other day. My sons commented all the shopping trolleys strewn about the area, why people can't be bothered to park them. Often it would only take them a couple of minutes. People are big on going to the gym here, puzzling really, as they can't even find the energy to park a shopping basket! :). Pam in anorway

  12. Just finished watching 'Eat Well for Less'.....I would have thought that as a pharmacist the mother should have already been aware of what she should have been feeding her family!
I almost choked when I saw them eating 'Wotsits' alongside their veggie curry!!!
I appreciate that she works and therefore doesn't have a lot of time to cook, but thousands of us have managed to feed our families healthily even when working full time!
