Ginger and the Cat Lady

Did I ever tell you that I'm a cat lady ..... through and through.

Some of you may find that strange considering we have four dogs and only one cat.  But when Lovely Hubby and I met I had two cats, I was down to only two as one cat had just died, coincidentally she was also called Ginger, a rare and beautiful big ginger coloured girl cat who I loved to bits, and another one had recently left home.  Fed up with being picked on by her larger big brother Toby she took up residence with an elderly lady on the same street as us.  Who was I to argue, as the saying goes ... 'you should never argue with women or cats'!!

Ginger is the most placid and easy going, accepting of cats I have ever known, and I have had cats since I was one year old.  He will share a bed with any of the dogs .....

.... as this little run of pictures shows.

If he wants to get in a bed and there is already a dog in it he will just snuggle on down next to them, luckily they all like a snuggle as much as he does.

If we want to go away for a day or two he is happy to be left at home.  He has access to the outside through his cat flap, his favourite dried food dispenser is there for whenever he fancies a meal, and he drinks from the same big water bowl as the dogs, so we simply leave him a fresh supply.

He does get a little bit lonely if we stay away for more than one night, but we always provide extra cuddles when we get back and, as is his nature, he forgives us immediately.  If the dogs are in kennels we always  make sure he has lots of our time before we go and pick them up and fill his world with their madness again.

He's gorgeous when he looks at you with those beautiful ginger coloured eyes.

And when we catch him in places he shouldn't really be ......

... he just melts your heart and you let him stay.

Given the choice between cats and dogs, I would choose cats every time ... but shhh, don't tell the dogs!!

  2. One of our neighbours had a dog and cat that did the same. When she walked past us every morning and evening with the dog, the cat would be following very close behind!

    1. Ginger goes on most of our doggie walks around the paddock, he's most definitely 'one of the gang'.

  5. We're cat people too. We like dogs, in theory, but they're a bit too much work. We appreciate the independence of our cat.

  6. Though I am a dog person myself, I can imagine why you love Ginger so much. The whole bunch is really cute, so nice to see them in their beds together, nearly hugging each other.

  8. I am a dog person now, but always had cats around until late twenties (mine LOL) when we moved south, with no animals, our next door neighbours were such keen gardeners and I could not bring myself to put them through the hassle of me having cats. Later the street became very over populated with cats, a couple of houses having 5 and 6, it was difficult because there was not enough territory for them, and of course they slaughtered the bird population. I always have a word and a stroke of any consenting cats on my walks though

  9. Ohhh I love cats and dogs but I do find cats more relaxing and definitely cleaner but then you can't take a cat for a walk down the main road, well apart from my childhood cat who would walk to the shop when my Mum went to fetch her Sherry, maybe it was so she could find her way home (my Mother that is)

  17. Im certainly a cat person as well. My Mother in Law (who lives next door) has an elderly cat and an over enthusiastic dog, so the cat comes to our house to get away from the dog. Kizzy can usually be found curled up on her cushion or wrapped up in her rug on our bed. We love her to bits as shes a real character. One of my favourite animal sayings = Dogs have owners, cats have staff. Its very true of our surogate cat :o)
