Views from the House

The light we get on our Welsh hillside changes by the minute, the other day it was spectacular.  I almost caught it with my little digital camera but not quite.

In these photos I started taking by a photo to the left as we look out from the house and then swung round slowly to the right.

You can almost get the feel of the clouds rolling across the landscape.

Looks like there is a bit of sunshine in Llandudno, but by the time I got there no doubt the clouds would be fast on my heels, so I decided not to bother.

I walked the dogs around the paddock after taking these photos and then the rain came, so it was a quick dash back to the house and time to put the kettle on.

My green fingers are itching to get going with some planting now but everywhere is just too wet and boggy, and we have just had the bad news that we need to apply for planning permission to be able to erect our polytunnel ... how long will that take to come through :-(

  1. What a bummer regarding the poly-tunnel. Shame you didn't know beforehand then you could have got it earlier. Lovely views. We holidayed close to the Welsh borders and looked out over the Brecon Beacons every morning.

  2. The clouds certainly do roll across us here in North Wales.... Apparently we had snow here in the village whilst I slumbered after last night's shift, though the rain has now cleared it.
Surprised about the required planning permission though as not a permanent building.

  3. Pretty! I love watching the weather roll down the mountains when we lived in Scotland.
That bend looks dicey...especially in wet weather.
I can't get over how green everything is over there!

    1. It's all the bloody rain we've been having, over the whole country.! What isn't green is either brown because you have disturbed the grass and brought the mud to the surface or blue because it's covered with water!!

    2. Oh and YES, the bend IS dicey as is it's twin brother just before our house and still the cars race round at 65 miles an hour, which is why we lost our poor Archie, he just wasn't used to the speed of the road and the uncaring motorists on it :-(

  4. Lovely views Sue but it is a complete pain about the planning permission.

  5. The planning thing does sound a bit odd, are you in the National Park?

    1. We are just on the outskirts of it, but from what we've just heard from an architect we would have been better in it!! Seemingly Conwy Council is the worst for nit picking, and wanting and granting planning applications for any development, we're not happy :-(

  7. I'd agree with John, I didn't think Planning Permission was required for what is essentially a temporary structure.

But then again, Councils need to make money now, and Planning applications are a source of revenue to them.

Might be worth asking them nicely for an explanation?

    1. We tried that and just got back a letter quoting lots of different rules and regulations and saying that we must apply for permission.

  8. Such stunning views, I'm so envious. How absolutely wonderful to be able to see that every day. Shame about the planning permission, I hope it doesn't take too long.

  9. Having to get planning permission for a temporary structure sounds a pain, hope it is sorted out soon. I made Marmalade too today, the house smelled gorgeous for ages after.

  11. I think the rules on erecting poly tunnels are quite varied amondst the councils and a lot depends on whether or not they will be used for commercial growing and how permanent they are. I don't think you will have a problem other than a long wait! Love the views - my friend Kathleen is heading your way for a long weekend today.

  14. Bad luck about the need for planning permission. The process is a nightmare if there are any problems. I want to get planting as well but its far too wet here. Nice views by the way!
