A Year Ago Today .......

A year ago today we lost Sophie our beautiful Border Collie, she died peacefully and suddenly while we were away from the farm.

I expressed it all in THIS post, and really I have nothing I can add to that.

Except to say we miss her as much today as we did when I wrote that post. She left a huge space in our lives, but still I can see that big doggy grin whenever I call her to mind, and call her to mind is something I do everyday, she was so much a part of everything we did and everywhere we went.

As I placed the jug full of flowers gathered from around the farm, the chickens, Sophie's beloved chickens lined up at the fence. I took them the grass that I had cut from the top of where she lies so the jug of flowers would stand flat ... she would have approved of that.

We miss you Sophie

(((hugs))) In the last 3 years I've had to goodbye to 2 of my dogs. They fill our lives with so much love it's like losing a family member when they leave us.

I too know the pain of loosing a beloved pet, my heart goes out to you. I know that Sophie is with you in your hearts, and that's important....

Sending you a huge hug, we lost our Patterdale terrier a few months... They leave a big hole in your hearts don't they?

My thoughts are with you. We lost two of our dogs a couple of years ago and we bought roses and planted them in the garden in memory of them. I love looking at them in bloom. My children call them Riminis rose and Gypsys rose we can't remember what their real names are!

How terrible to have lost a pet so special, I'm sorry for the loss she has left. My dog is the age Sophie was when she died, and I am going to be so devastated when she passes on. My thoughts are with you.

Sophie was a very pretty border collie. I love border collies. Although it is a year late here is a lovely poem our veterinarian sent us when we had to let our yellow lab, Tib, "go to Heaven." It really touched us.

This was my Blog, just me writing about our day to day life learning all about and then living the smallholding life. First we started on a farm in Oxfordshire, then we moved to a smaller place in Berkshire (both in England) and then we found a place of our very own at the bottom of a hillside in North Wales. Along for the ride were all our various animals, and we ended up with just our dogs, Suky and Mavis, our cat Ginger .... who secretly thinks he's one of the canine gang, a sheep called Ethel who wandered in off the road and stayed... and a roving band of egg laying chickens that live cheek by jowl with the local wildlife.

We grow our own fruit and vegetables, selling surplus plants and edibles at the gate. We sell the eggs the chickens lay, we reuse, recycle and rethink ... and life ticks over at a pace that suits us.

It was simply the wild and wacky ramblings of a 50 something townie turned country girl called Sue, who lost her heart to a sailor and started a new life in the country .... many years ago. On a path that took us from Cumbria to Oxfordshire, to Berkshire and then we found our home at the bottom of a wet and windy Welsh hillside by a busy main road.

Pull up a chair, grab a coffee and relax into a world of dogs, cats, chickens, polytunnels and veggies with the occasional grass munching sheep thrown in for good measure.
