Anybody Want a Pet Boa Constrictor

Rosy, our little Jack Russell got fed up waiting for her tea last night and went out and caught herself a rabbit.

She devoured it eagerly and as I'm too squeamish to take them off her and LH was too busy this time she got to eat the lot.   When LH came in for his tea he said "don't look out the window now she's just got the ears left to swallow", and sure enough all that could be seen were two ears sticking out of her mouth flapping up and down and she struggled to swallow them - yuk, yuk and double yuk.

She obviously thinks she's a Boa Constrictor that dog of mine.

Although she could also get a job at a gym, because every morning when she hears the words "it's time for crunches" on my 'Slim in 6' exercise Dvd she leaps off the sofa and gets into position for press ups and crunches.  I've been trying to get a photo of her for ages now, but she runs off laughing when I try.

This is the nearest thing I could find to give you an idea, but NO Rosy does not have her own exercise mat!!

Simple September - Top Tip #13

When making Scones don't bother with a rolling pin and a cutter, all that rolling cutting and re-rolling to get the most from your dough simply overworks it, instead pat gently into a circle and cut into quarters.  Your Scones will rise better and be wonderfully light and fluffy inside .... and you will have less washing up.

  1. I have Lucy, my Cairn Terror (oops! Terrier)... I'm squeamish too... I know it's their nature, but ewwwww...I just hate it when she catches either a rabbit or bird.

  2. Yuk, yuk, yuk, right enough... says I, who often sees the cat running along the wall with the tail of a lizard wriggling from out the side of her mouth. Yuk!

  3. Once you get going on the growing veg' side of life, you may appreciate a rabbit hunting companion!

    1. She never seems to get the ones that venture inside the Veggie Patch, I think she thinks the fence round it is electrified like the chicken fence so keeps clear, unless they are shooting in the woods, then she stays close to me shaking like a leaf!

  4. I never knew that a Jack Russell could (or would) eat rabbits! We had a cat (sadly now deceased and hunting in Cat Heaven) who would go get his own food if I was not on time with his meals. He preferred dining wild and he always amazed us with his menu. He amazed the other 2 cats as well who look at him admiringly whilst he devoured some poor prey. At least your dog does not bring them through the cat flap1 Minerva x

    1. It's the cats that bring the birds and rabbits through the cat flap, and then Rosy joins in with the chase and meal inside the house which she thinks is VERY civilised !! :-(

  6. Well I saw the photo at the top and was just going to say she's so cute, but goodness me, the image that your description of Rosy with the poor bunnies ears flapping about in her mouth conjures up is not one of cuteness. We were looking at getting a Border Terrier when we got our dog, but decided against a terrier in the end as we have a couple of pet rabbits, they don't mix well. We ended up getting a Cavalier instead, he wouldn't get anywhere near a rabbit the speed he goes. Congratulations on your new home, it looks fabulous.

  7. I have a sneaky suspicion something new has been nibbling in the garden. Something bigger than a mouse.. I might take you up on it. Just as long as I don't have to watch.

  8. Ha Ha Oh my. When I try to exersize anything that requires laying face up, my boxer dog stands over me and stares me right in the face putting her large jowl over my nose to look in my eyes and I get a case of the giggles ! My tiny 3 lb dog then jumps up and down on my tummy and my other more dignified older dog stares at me from a distance as if to say "I am having non of that silliness ! " . Needless to say if I want to seriously do floor exersizes the dogs must be in another room.

  9. Strange, they usually start eating the head first.

    1. The cats do start at the heads, in fact usually they ONLY eat the heads, but Rosy starts on the flanks ..... yuk, what a grim conversation ....Lol !

  10. umm I saw Frankie swallow a whole mouse & felt rather sick so that would have been worse !
Funny just as I looked at the exercises Joe was giving me a demonstration with his weights saying he will teach me !

  11. Ugh, my cat used to eat rabbits and leave the tails but I never saw them actually eating them.

I have the same idea as you about scones. Forget all those silly little cutters and the bits in between, I shape into an approximate oblong and just cut them into squares. Totally agree, far lighter and of course I like it as it is easier.

    1. Cage, care and fascination I guess.

Although I have a sneaking suspicion that if I had a pet rabbit and I could keep an eye on Rosy for a while she would know the difference between a family member and a wild rabbit. After all she eats wild birds when she catches one but doesn't eat any chicks we have, although you can sometimes see in her eyes the struggle going on in her brain ... 'food, family, food, family' :-)

  13. I always make my scones like this but cut them into 8 pieces.
