What a Dog's Life!!

All our dogs except Rosy seem to be able to watch television and understand what is going on.  Their favourite programmes obviously are anything with animals in them, and they will sit enthralled for an hour or more if animals keep turning up.

Rosy hears things on the television and responds to the sounds but unlike the others she just doesn't put two and two together and sit and look at the picture.

We thought it was just real things they liked to watch but now we've realised they all recognise cartoons of every type.  Their favourite film over Christmas was '101 Dalmatians', I really didn't think the flat drawing style of the old Disney cartoons would have caught their attention the way modern more lifelike cartoons do, but they seemed to get really excited by what they saw.

Of course after some serious viewing they all tend to nod off and spend the rest of the evening like they spend most evenings, cuddled up on the sofa with me.

This is Suky watching Kirstie Allsop who was wearing a big furry hat in one of her Christmas programmes .... Suky was convinced it was an animal and stared intently at the screen every time she appeared with on her head.  :-)

It's not a bad life is it, snuggling up in front of the television and the log burner on the cold Winters nights we've been having.

  1. Great to see your dogs lying there, so cutely together. Your pictures made me laugh, watching tv makes a dog tired, doesn't it?
    Enjoy your weekend!

  3. My dog pricks his ears up when he hears something interesting on the Tv. Normally an animal sound. x

  4. So cute, what a hard life! I'd love to have another dog but our present lifestyle would render it unfair. I do get to dog sit when my son and his wife are away though! When my last dog died aged 17 I swore I wouldn't have another as I was so distraught. I am lucky enough to have a gorgeous cat inherited from my late friend though. Handsome chap that he is!

  5. Ben watches the TV, last night he was entranced by River Monsters, he does love the Meerkat adverts though and sits right in front of the screen.

  6. Mine only prick up their ears to barking or dog noises on tv. Probably learnt to tune out from the Disney channel being on so much (even though youngest is 16, child that is) :)

  7. Goodness, they look cosy snuggled up together like that! Dogs are such fantastic characters - our cats don't have quite that level of interaction! Juliette

  8. I'm very jealous, I would love to have another dog but can't until we are well and truly retired. It wouldn't be fair to leave them for long periods while we are at work.

  9. Oh, Charley just reminds me of a typical fourth child. Three older siblings who probably let her get away with anything. Also the security of their bodies when she is tired or afraid. They probably look on indulgently when she does something cute or naughty and the best things of all is that mum and dad have been there before and know all baby things end and she will grow into a another lovely pet.

  10. What a lovely life your dogs lead with you! We would love a dog but I took in and hand reared a feral kitten 2 years ago and she's frightened of everything. Very loyal to us but scared stiff of almost everything else. Hasn't ventured outside since the summer ended. Even scared when she sees another cat in the garden through the window so definitely wouldn't cope with having a doggy companion.
