Hot water, towels.......dried mud!!

Hot water, towels....dried mud...midwife.....!!

Martha is due to go into labour at any time we initially thought she would be having her babies on Friday, but calculating the date of 'the deed' was trickier than we thought.  Now looking at her and all the little signs, I think she is about to produce her first litter of piglets at any time.
~
I took her some extra straw to finish off the nest she has constructed, but Martha being Martha, she decided to eat most of it instead!!

This picture was taken a couple of days ago when she was nice and clean, today she has been wallowing in the mud all day and is filthy up to her shoulders.  I went over before to check on her and she was sat up like a giant dog with all her teats covered in mud.  I am just going out to try and give her 'undercarriage' a wash with warm water before she falls asleep for the night just in case the babies are born.....I mean would you want your first drink of milk to be mud flavoured.

  8. Thanks for all the comments everyone nice to hear from you, as of now 2pm on 7th June, she still hasn't had them!!

She's a Middle White and the young pig in front of her is her sisters son, a Middle White crossed with a Large Black, which is what her babies will be. Our boar, Jack, is a Large Black. Both are Rare Breed British Pigs.

The other pigs we have are Kune Kunes, which are New Zealand rare breed pigs.
