Through Fresh Eyes

After being away from the farm, I'm looking at things through fresh eyes.
~
When you live on a farm things get messy, there's no way around it, lots of animals equal lots of bedding, animal feed, muck etc etc. When you're here 24/7 it can get you down. Don't forget I used to live in a smart townhouse with easy to clean rooms and a place for everything, until quite recently it has been getting me down how messy everything here gets and SO quickly.
~
But I've come back with a different attitude. I don't know what's caused the switch, maybe I'm just happier myself with all the weight I've lost, more comfortable in my own skin and therefore, more comfortable with my surroundings.
~
It was brought home to me this morning on the way back from the doggie walk I was thinking "I must weed the vegetable beds ready for the photographer next week and get the place looking tidy" and then I realised every time I pass the veggie beds I grab a handful of the 'weeds' for the Kune Kunes to munch on and they love them, why would I pull up a perfectly good food source just because in my tidy mind they are weeds.
~
Something in my mind has now flipped, now I don't see mess, I see things waiting to be used.
~
I don't see dog hairs all over the floor, I see two contented dogs flat out snoozing after a long walk in the fresh air. I don't see a bath strewn with lavender and rose petal debris as a mess, I see it as a reminder of a lovely long soak last night after a busy day on the farm. I don't see the kitchen table all cluttered with 'things', I see the half made Teacup Candles for the Fair on Saturday making the house smell divine.........and weirdly...... I don't see a horrid snail halfway up the kitchen wall above the door as a yucky thing, I see Sid the Snail hibernating in a warm spot!!
~
Have I gone mad......maybe! Does it feel good.....YES!!

  1. Wonderful post Sue and I know exactly how you feel. Despite our house renovations still not being finished after 3 years I'm beginning to see some of the half done jobs as works of art!

Even the muck heap has a special place in my heart this year for yielding the most fantastic compost I've ever seen, and the mess, well, that is as you said part and parcel of country living I guess.

  2. What a wonderful way of seeing things. I'll try and put that into action here, I should certainly get plenty of practice!!

  3. Weeds are really wild flowers, herbs and the like just growing in the wrong place!

  4. That is exactly how I feel. Luckily, most everyone who visits our house is from the country, and all them have cats/dogs so they expect to have cat/dog hairs on their clothes, and dirty wellies at the front door!

  5. It's funny how the country grows on you: quite literally! I wouldn't go back into town for love nor money now - it's a different, freer way of living and I love it ... :0)

  6. That is such a brilliant way of looking at things. Living in the country is messy & you do need to get your head around it!.. I think I have.... Lizzie

  7. Not at all mad Sue, a great way to flip your thoughts! Just looking at my contented sleepy doggins here is such a lovely sight and I can see right past the paws that are still holding onto the mud from this morning's walk!
    Take care

  10. Sue .. You a "lazy" sod , that is the last thing we could call you .... or think you have turned into. I don't live on a farm , nor in a smart townhouse, but that is what I would like to live in. And so this house is getting me down as lots of work needs doing.

I am sure I could not live on a farm ..but I am sure my hubby could. He used to work on a farm in his teens when he lived in West Wales far from anywhere.

That is the difference.. my house gets me down as nothing has changed except two rooms, and that was my doing.. he doesn't see the need for it to be done.

Or it could be that other problems makes us unhappy in our homes..

You and your hubby have done and are doing a fantastic job, you are always busy , with lots and lots, not like me, so I think too much :-) take care xo
