Who's the Daddy?

Caldwell shelters with his wives under the umbrella.
Well we're off and running. Yesterday for the first time all four Lavender Pekin Bantams laid an egg, that's the fourth little egg for Alice and the first for the others.

Alice checking her egg.

Who's the Daddy? Why Caldwell of course. Fertilised eggs will be soon be for sale, I'm waiting until they are laying on a regular basis before jumping onto the sales bandwagon, in the meantime I was hoping for a broody hen to man (chicken?) the maternity ward......fingers crossed.

Prudence and Isabel deciding whether to brave the rain.

We have the sunshine back today.....shhh.....don't scare it away, yesterday was dire, it rained all day, the hens and dogs were lost and miserable, they just didn't know what to do with themselves. The pigs enclosure quickly turned into a mud pool and I went through three changes of clothes before bedtime.

Let's hope for a better day today.

  1. hi Sue, wasn't it awful yesterday- chicks sheltering under the hedge(who can blame them) were eventually joined by Kit who(having eaten someone who disagreed with her) curled-up in one of their dugouts to sleep it off.
Farrier came up to put Bruce's shoes back on and when I fetched him in after a couple of hours leg-stretch, he was COMPLETELY coated in mud and I ended up having to hose him down!
I join you in it being a 3-canges-of-clothes day.

    Sunny this morn, washing out...

Lovely to see the new pig in your last posting.
    Speak soon

  2. bedraggled hens & dog here too yesterday- not a good look. The cats opted to stay curled up inside. We looked awful too when we got home but I'm glad it was cool yesterday all be it slippy at Go Ape !

I managed to " cure " Lucy from her broody patch much faster this time - though the others were unsettled & laying all over the place !

  5. What lovely names they all have Sue! If I ever had a little girl I would call her Alice... it was my first rabbit's name too.

I have redesigned my blog a little and created a very small & special list of favourite sites - and have put yours on it :-) It's not one of those long lists - just a very few recommendations and yours was one of the obvious ones for me.

Maybe one day I'll come and meet you at a fair...

    Love Charlotte
