A Dry Day

For once yesterday it didn't rain.

The sun shone in patches, I even risked a few things on the washing line and it didn't, as is my usual way, bring on an immediate downpour.  The workmen used to yell at me for putting washing on the line,  for every time an hour after doing so the heavens would open and they would all be working in big coats and hats for the rest of the day.

No it stayed dry and fresh, well dampishly fresh, but while it was nice I took the dogs for a long walk along the prom at Llandudno coming back through the shopping street for a change of scenery, posted a letter and picked up a rather large bag of dog food on the way back.

I felt like a wimp ... usually I pick up 20kg bags of Layers pellets and Corn without too much difficulty, but this bag of dog feed weighing in at 15kg had me struggling, this cold has obviously knocked the stuffing out of me ... and taken my muscles with it!!

I used to lift and shift 25kg bags of pig feed into and out of the 'Cowavan' ... but I had my ways and means of managing those - see HERE for more on that.

Now that's a blast from the past, I liked my cowavan  :-)

  3. We had a glorious day in Surrey yesteday. Today is mightily cold however! Love the cowavan - was it static or did you now it around making everyone smile? :)

    1. Haha ..... it was completely static. Just getting it up our 1.5 mile dirt track to our old farm meant two stops to pump up it's tyres. The folk I bought it off had to stop numerous times to do the same to get it to the village for me to pick up. Once it situ it stayed there, as a reasonably weatherproof pig feed store. How the ton and a half of pig feed we had delivered at a time and moved into there didn't fall straight through the floor I'll never know. It was the best £250 I ever spent!!

It was much too rickety to move with us when we moved on to Berkshire and we had to leave it behind :-(

  4. I love your cowavan and the name for it! I cheat and order our large bags of dog food online; we buy a specialist diet for one dog and it's cheaper than buying it locally (not much choice where we live - we'd have to travel at least half an hour to a shop which stocks it and it's a lot more expensive). When the courier arrives, he carries it to the garage for me and I put it straight into a galvanised steel dustbin (to keep the rats and mice out; they chew through the plastic bins). I keep a large tub in the house and fill this up with the dog food every week to save going out to the garage at dog meal times. Hope you recover from your cold soon xx

  5. I agree, a cold/flu/bad chest really does knock you for six! It takes a while to start feeling strong again. Love the cowavan.

  6. Love the caravan.

Watch that back when lifting those heavy bags.

  7. Steady on...!! You shouldn't be lifting such heavy weights. Take the advice of an old girl who has had her share of back troubles and now lifts smarter, not heavier. Love that cowavan!! I think I need one of those. :)

    1. Don't worry as someone who has taught 'safe lifting' to others I do take care. As I am here on my own some of the time I do have to keep my strength up to be able to do this when required, usually I am fine.

  8. Let's hope it stays dry for a few weeks, at least give the ground a chance to dry out a bit before we get anymore. That's half the problem, no sooner does it stop it starts again and back come the floods :( x x x

  9. I, too, love the "Cowavan" - Bet you've had some good times and that "Cowavan" can tell some stories. Wonder if you holidayed in it or it was on your own land. Caravaning brings back many memories of good, fun times in the past. Beautiful day here in Stockport today, sun shining. Lets hope it continues to do so, makes us all feel better. Kind regards, Louise S, Cheshire.

    1. No, unfortunately it was just a pig feed store and parked on our land near the house. I would love a caravan to holiday in though. I used to stand in it looking at the piles of bags of pig feed and wonder what it was like when it was new and fitted out properly. It just had a couple of cupboards and the narrow beds inside .... which were all filled with pig feed to keep the weight over the entire length and breadth of the van :-(

  10. Gorgeous clear blue skies here in Manchester today but freezing. Stuck in work thinking what a perfect day to wrap up and go for a walk but hey ho I have to earn a living. I sympathise with the cold as I have one too and have been much less energetic on my travels from classroom to classroom. In fact on Monday I went straight to bed as soon as I got home which is most unlike me as I am a bundle of energy usually. Hope you feel better soon. X

  11. That cowman is too cute! I'm sorry you are still feeling poorly. I hope you can enjoy the sunnier day without more heavy lifting.
