The Living Room is Almost Finished ... but What's Missing?

After another good weekends work with the Living Room almost completed, the curtains are up, some of the boxes of books are unpacked .....

... we even have pictures on the walls.

Here are the pooches posing with their new friend the door stop ...... who is currently unemployed !!

The large gap in the left hand corner is where our tall bookshelf will sit, but it's one of the few things that doesn't fit in the back of the truck and will have to come up when we are bringing the big animal trailer in a couple of weeks.

The cupboards are now all painted, white inside and our gorgeous green outside.  But what's that flash of blue to the right I hear you ask, it looks slightly out of place ....

... it's a shower curtain in the bathroom doorway !!

Had you spotted that we are missing a few doors, well ALL of them to be exact.  On Friday we took off all the doors and delivered them to the door stripper who will be dipping them in his solution and removing years worth of paint, and hopefully bringing them back to their former glory.  We have no idea what they will look like, but it most definitely cannot be any worse than the lumpy bumpy layers of peeling paint that was on them.  If they come up well we will be staining and waxing them, if they look dreadful it will have to be a fresh coat of white paint, I have my fingers firmly crossed for the former option.

I can't wait to see them, but it will take a total of two weeks until we can go and pick them up again, so I will have to be patient.  In the meantime we are completely open plan, and the only bit of privacy is our shower curtain to the bathroom, which the dogs have now discovered is absolutely no barrier whatsoever , so every shower, bath or visit to the loo is accompanied by two little doggies, who are absolutely fascinated by this new viewing delight.

Oh well we do our best to keep our animals entertained :-)

Oh, and although we remembered to put back the clocks while we were in Wales, we got home, did various jobs and then sat down to some television on Sunday night not realising that we hadn't changed a single clock back here.  Sooooo another glass of wine and another hours tv it was then ..... most welcome after that long journey home battling wind and rain and slow slow traffic on the motorways.

  2. I love the shade of green on your doors and behind the wood burner. I have to make sure I get in the loo and quickly close the door, as the pup ( 4 month old mini schnauzer) is a disaster in there........tries to be " Andrex puppy", and knocks the metal tops off the loo roll holder and loo brush!

  4. That living room is just delightfully cozy, Sue. Oh I can see you both really enjoying time there this winter, a nice fire going and the dogs dozing in front. I'm just so happy for you finding this lovely 'forever home' in such a beautiful location. While you have gorgeous views outside all your windows, you're making the place have just as many lovely views - of the inside!

  5. My pup has a habit of pushing the door of our bathroom open and puting her paws on your lap whilst you are doing your business. She is a terror, not a terrier! Lol. X

  6. It is looking absolutely fabulous, clean, bright, spacious but homey as well. What fun (and hard work of course!) you are having.

  7. It's 30 years since I had doors dipped, the house was about 100 years old, and the doors were original but painted with that imitation gloss paint graining that seemed to be all the rage in the 50s. They came back looking good, but a bit slack as some of the joints were coming a bit loose, 100 years worth of drying out I suppose. They tightened up OK and just left bare wood, looked good as well.

  10. Your 'forever home' is looking wonderful - and homely, with or without doors!!! When do you actually move in?

  11. Your temporary door reminds me of when we were doing the kitchen. The units and appliances were shifted out to the hall but to get to a water supply they had to take the door off the downstairs loo. There was much whistling and coughing for a few weeks!
The Living Room is looking really cosy now. Quite a transformation.

  12. Looking good! Hope your doors turn out ok, can be a bit of a gamble when you have them dipped. You might have to reglue joints if they've come loose and they'll probably need a good rub down as it can make the wood fur up. Nice sized rooms though (and I reconise those curtains!)

    1. We are hoping they will be okay, the door specialist said they are right to be the original doors to the house (it was built in 1920), but we will be armed with woodglue and clamps just in case .

Good taste abounds in Blog Land with curtains and soft furnishing eh Kev ;-)

  13. If the shower curtain had only been green, you may have been converted to doorlessness!

    1. It was the nearest I could get to green that wasn't too expensive, all the really cheap ones were clear, no use at all !! And no ... I could never live without a bathroom door :-)

  15. Oh how exciting about the doors, I do hope you can stain them. My mom bought an ugly baby grand piano years ago for $200, sounded great, but was ugly. Looked like someone painted it yellow, then decided it was too yellow, then added brown. Years later when moving she decided it was a good time to have it refinished...more because on one wanted to move it;-) Anyway, a week later the refinisher calls all excited....seems the wood was solid mahogany under all that ugly paint.
Love the green on the cabinet doors...it has me thinking.

  16. I'm inspired by all your lovely white paint and have bought some but wonder how it will look with our mix of varnished pine, darker stained wood and dark, carved furniture. Our house was built in early 80s with a vaulted pint boarded ceiling and I wouldn't even begin to try to paint it, too large a job. If we move, it would be up to the purchaser to decide upon the style! Your house looks lovely!

    1. It will look lovely. Just look at the different shades of wood we have going on, the furniture, the floor etc and see how the white brings it all together and it's so easy to wash down when it get animal marks and touch up in the future without having to re-decorate. Go for it :-)

  17. I look forward to reading your blog, especially as you blog regularly, it is quite frustrating when a good blogger dissapears for a few weeks or even months. What a lovely home you are making, you cant beat white walls with accents of colour! Thanks for sharing your life with us!

  18. Sue, it looks fabulous!! You're not by any chance going to be opening it as a B & B are you? Me and my doggy would fit right in there too. :D :D

I bet you can't wait to get there for good. Now you've done it, it seems to have happened so quickly. I'm so pleased for you both. It's fantastic for you all.
Have a great rest of the week dear lady. Xx

    1. Haha, we would never be able to open as a B&B the house is much too small, and there is no en-suite which is pretty much expected these days. The only bathroom is through the living room, not ideal for guests, or us for that matter.
