Every time a parcel is delivered to our house the dogs rush eagerly into the kitchen to supervise it's opening.
It all started when Rosy was a puppy, we lived at Jointers Farm and our track to the village was almost two miles long, she had a thing for chasing cars off our property and I quickly had to find a way of making her more interested in the parcel than she was in the delivery van.
And so was born ..... "Oooh what have we got, what have we got?"
It caught her attention immediately and she followed me into the house to see what treat for her the delivery man had brought. All I had to do was surreptitiously sneak a doggy chew into the parcel and let her discover it lying on top of the things for Mum.
The other dogs quickly picked up on this surprise tasty snack, so I do it to this day, we all need a tasty little surprise in our lives from time to time.
This time it was my parcel from Approved Foods. I had placed the order to take advantage of the low priced tins of tomatoes, six tins for just £1 and the catering sized bags of Crumble Mix, although they made a mistake and sent me just one instead of the four bags that I ordered. They have refunded my money as they have now ran out of it .... I would rather have had the other three bags :-(
I don't order from Approved Foods as much as I used to, but sometimes when the email drops into my Inbox and it's something that we need and is a real bargain I will succumb. This was bought and paid for before the start of Stoptober so I have no guilt to feel either!!
I added some Gingerbread Mix to my order as it was on offer at three boxes for a pound. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually an M&S packet mix .... ooh err proper posh!! There is even a proper little man shaped cutter in every box. I think I'll tie them all together on a length of tinsel and turn them into a Christmas garland.
Oh no ..... I said the 'C' word.

Lots of folks have been receiving Approved Food parcels this week ;-) xxx
ReplyDeleteWhy are they all so much cheaper than RRP?
ReplyDeleteDani, their stuff is close to or past their sell by dates. Although in saying that I've just had a delivery too and some of the dates on my stuff is July 2015. So I'd also say over runs or discontinued lines too
ReplyDeleteYou got almost the same as me. The cuppa soup is not something I would normally buy but it was such a bargain I couldn't resist the opportunity to be lazy. It was enjoyed by my regular lunchtime visitor with some HM bread. I got 6 packs of gingerbread men and was wondering what to do with 6 little cutters. thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteMy cat loves the delivery coming as he cant wait to leap into the empty boxes. A while ago I bought him a cat house on top of a scratching post with attached cat toys from Lidl. I thought he would love his cute little fur lined den but he wont go near it. He is much happier sitting in the box it came in.
I love your photo with that look of expectancy in their eyes.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had any approved foods for a while, you have to be careful though as you can easily end up with a pile of c**p .
ReplyDeleteI agree you have to be careful, I succumb to the catering packets and I would have been miffed over the crumble mix as well x
ReplyDeleteBargains galore !!!
ReplyDelete(Although- that size large box s.h.o.u.l.d. have more that 4 treats in it !!)
;-)
I've never been tempted by anything on the Approved Foods site, so I must be an oddball! I buy ingredients and none of the things I stock up on seem to be there, but I am sure there are bargains to be had - the tinned tomatoes were a great buy. I've just been to the site to check again, and no - I'm not tempted! You made some great savings, though I have to say, crumble topping is so quick to knock up it's not something I would buy in. Do you have a Lidl near you? We tend to buy all our basics in there, though there are holes in their stocking policy and certain stuff I can't find there . . .
ReplyDeleteHappy faces !
ReplyDeleteDaisy considers it her duty to make a phenomenal amount of noise whenever we get a delivery (which is very often, much of my shopping is done online).
ReplyDeleteMost of our regular drivers think her wailing and warbling is funny but we get the odd relief driver who's not sure. With the latest batch of ill-thought out 'dog control' legislation in place from tomorrow you can't be too careful so we also have the what's this, what's in here parcel game accompanied by a favourite biscuit.
I'm new to your blog and am so glad that I somehow found it! It is delightful! Your postie story really made me smile, it think it is so funny how your doggies get excited about a new parcel arriving - priceless!
ReplyDeleteOur dog does the same thing. He has to check every package that arrives. I guess that he hoping that there might be a treat in there for him.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of DP, he has to have a little try of any shopping, AP or otherwise!
